On this wonderful day I will be at a "Teaching Day" listening to the brilliance of Martin Laird!

  2. Rainy windy morning. Gold blowing from the trees in masses. Quite lovely, really.

They decided to clean the park in NYC in sections, so disaster averted. Thanks to everyone who called the Mayor's office. . . .

  3. Going on a 5K walk through the Metro Park tomorrow morning. Took me forever to find my hiking boots. Last 5K we did was on sidewalks, so I could just wear my regular walking shoes.

Last night I spotted a little spider walking the perimeter of the ceiling medallion in my room. Spider just kept going 'round and 'round in an endless loop.

  4. Very windy here and chillier than it was a few days ago -- not quite 60 now. Alternating clounds and sunshine. Not too bad on the whole.

  5. Hi, Susan! Have fun!

I 'spect the spiders are confused this time of year about what they ought to be doing. . . . Their race is almost run.

  6. puddle, how'd you know it was me? Had a world of trouble with Firefox yesterday and it took both my brainy boys to get it fixed. Forgot that I have to re-sign into everything.

My sister and BIL routinely get up at oh dark thirty (or as Son #2 says, "WTF o'clock". I'm just *not* that way, so tomorrow the walk won't be the challenging part, getting up out of the bed *will* be. Have to 'cause I'm driving.

  8. Waving hallo from Sips in Southwest Harbor where I came for some baked haddock. Smile
It's pouring rain and foggy...has been since I got here. Sun expected tomorrow.
Retreat is going well. Martin is indeed brilliant.
Take care, all. And! Great to hear NYC came through.

  9. BIG windy this evening. Blew a sheet of polycarbonate off of the sun roof. AND. Boy, did I feel Winter in that wind. . . . I believe I'd be willing to wait a while longer for that, all things considered.

  11. Heard back from my Senators today. No surprise -- neither addressed the point I made. Durbin was all about the need to tax millionaires and billionairs. Never mind that my whole point was that that wasn't enough. Kirk was all about the need for tax reform and tax simplification. Hmm. When whs the last time I heard the words "tax simplification"? O, yes, I believe it was 1984. The result, as I recall, was what was only half-facetiously called "The Lawyers and Accountants Relief Act" that sent so many scurrying to paid tax perparers.

And both were on about eliminating "examptions, deductions, credits, and exclusions." I immediately think of my personal examptions, standard or itemized deductions, additional deductions for self-employed health insurance and half of the self-employment tax, and partial exclusion of Social Security. Why am I suddenly uneasy? I said I should be paying more taxes, but I didn't mean *that*.
