Vermont Foliage Report #1: The first bit of colour is visible.

  1. What I want to know is---how come neither Howard Dean nor Al Gore has graced the Oval Office?

And I agree that it is moving to hear the names of the dead at the World Trade Center--but who in the U.S. has read aloud the names of the people who died due to the United States of America's wars on Iraq and Afghanistan? There must be at least a hundred names for each of the people dead at the WTC, Pentagon, and other places due to the actions of Saudi criminals--just about as many people as the USA loses to traffic accidents every year. And what of the people not actually killed, but sickened, impoverished, and driven from their homes?

It looks to me like the U.S. has failed to steal Iraq's oil, and has failed to make it possible to deliver Central Asian natural gas to India, bypassing Iran. What a surprise.

Pardon my morose thoughts. I guess I'm tired.

Sorry to hear about Ally's problems due to the treatments. I can certainly empathize to some degree from personal experience. But there sure is a lot to be grateful for as well.

Busier than a cat on a hot tin roof at work...

  2. Looks like misbehaving is being good to you Alan, lol!

Rainbows on me, my table and floor (polished the window prisms). But funnier is the name of the vet's business (who's coming this morning) is Noah's Light. Can't beat that.

  3. Beau's fine. Short nails now, and I'm on my own for the flea control (Trip to the big town). Stevie's anti-flead, and she did a diagnosis on his aging: serious serious arthritis both hind legs and hips, she gave him a shot for it, and he may need another in three weeks. He also has his rabies for the next three years. Other than that he's good. He doesn't have diabetes yet, I got praised for taking him off dry cat food last year. Like Dr. O'Connor very much.

Oh yes: she thinks Beau is about a year old; and a shepherd/golden mix -- based on skull shape and coat pattern. She says if there's any Pyr in him, it's way back.

  4. Alan, I agree of course. But it would take weeks if not months to read the names of all those who have been killed, maimed etc., etc. because of the United States' unjustifiable invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.

  6. You make a very good point about ALL the names, Alan.
We weren't even allowed to see the caskets return at first.

  7. Well, if Noah's coming you'd better hurry up and get a Mrs. Beau quick. LOL!

  8. Rats, I'm still seeing only 7 posts for yesterday.
But I saved them all so I can repost them now!

Vermont Public Radio yesterday alone raised over $610,000 for Vermont Flood Relief, breaking their all time one-day fundraising record!

    Vermonters ROCK!

Nice about Beau and the heron, puddle! I do know what you mean because Emma-cat was our critter detector. Now we'll have no idear what all is creeping about outside. Had she not been here to alert us, we would have missed a lot of night visitors over the years: cats, foxes, skunks, an opossum, and more, especially bears (you knew it was a bear because she would race upstairs all fuzzed up and hide under the bed! LOL!). I miss her so much! When I come in the door alone at night I still have to call for her because it feels too quiet and creepy if I don't. Besides, both of the ways I'd call her are still appropos. (You have to imagine these called out musically with rising notes until the last note, which goes back down) ~

    (1) Where's that Beautiful Kitty?!

    (2) Where'd dat cat go?!

    =^. .^=

    Very sad story: :-(

Whimbrel Migrates through Tropical Storm, Shot in Caribbean
    13 September 2011

Editor's note: The press release below is from the Center for Conservation Biology, College of William and Mary –Virginia Commonwealth University, and reprinted here with their permission. Thank you, Machi, for all that you taught us.

"(Williamsburg, VA)—Scientists at the Center for Conservation Biology learned today [12 September 2011] that a Whimbrel <http:> (Numenius phaeopus) they had been tracking via satellite for 2 years as part of a migration study had been shot by a hunting party this morning on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe (French West Indies). The shorebird, named “Machi,” had just flown through Tropical Storm Maria and made landfall on Montserrat before flying to Guadeloupe. Machi had been tracked for over 27,000 miles (44,000km) back and forth between breeding grounds in the Hudson Bay Lowlands of Canada to wintering grounds on the coast of Brazil. The bird was tracked on 7 nonstop flights of more than 2,000 miles. During the spring of 2010, Machi flew more than 3,400 miles directly from Brazil to South Carolina. Machi serves as an example of birds that interact with many landscapes and cultures throughout the year and a reminder of how international cooperation is required for their continued existence."
