Back from a trip to the Bay Area last night and today.
Installed a new Pioneer external DVD drive/burner on our iMac; it seems to deal with certain problem discs better than our Toshiba-Samsung drive (which came highly recommended). Probably a matter of newer firmware, maybe different chipsets.
Buffy seems like a very positive addition to the family. Good on you, puddle!
My most heartfelt good wishes for Ally and all her family. I had it relatively easy, but still I did have cancer and appear to have been cured. Still coping with some minor delayed side effects of the radiation treatments, but they seem to be slowly diminishing.
Some consulting work to do this weekend, phooey on doing any today (Saturday). Sunday will be good enough.
There's no rush, but I am still looking for a source of spinosad spray concentrate to control the spotted wing drosophila that wiped out our cherries this year. I'll probably have to order it online. Certified organic, and an application every five to seven days from the time the cherries start to turn yellow can allegedly give 100% control. None of us like the cherries Miyoko got at the foothill orchard the other day as well as we like ours.
I'm thinking of renaming him: Beauregard Heisenberg. . . . He is the most dramatically courteous puppy I've ever met (he *will* not go out or in a door before me, or jump up, or pull on a lead) AND is, with no doubt at all, simply the brightest animal of any variety I have ever encountered. And I have been owned by some exceedingly brilliant animals in my time.
Exquisitely gorgeous morning: radiant greens, cool, and flocks of butterflies -- tiger tails, brushfoots, painted ladies, spicebush swallow tails. And a gorgeous golden dog romping in the river. (He gets gold when he's wet.) Did I mention that life is good?
Now I will enjoy living with a dog through you, puddle. And in my mind I've named him "Beau" because that name always reminds me of Southern gentlemen.
Ya. I think it's a done deal. He answers to it beau-tifully. And he IS such a gentleman. From Alabama, no less. A disproportionate number of my closest friends are from Alabama. Don't know why that is, but tis so.
I agree with Susan about vicarious ownership. A dog is simply too much trouble in the city (cats are enough of a hassle), but hearing about a nice big doggie second-hand will be great!
Good for you finding an organic product for the Cherries, Alan! I'm still sad about your loss. Got my first batch of cherries this season yesterday and thought of you all.
Thanks for the Ally wishes, too. It sure is a virulent disease and long process...lifelong in her case.
listener--you can expect spotted wing drosophila pretty soon; they are on the east coast already. I will let everyone know if the spinosad works next year.
Clay Bennett on the Weiner kerfuffle: http://www.gocomics.com/claybennett I see in looking back through his recent cartoons that he seems rather more daring than when he worked for the Christian Science Monitor.
Beauregard Heisenberg? Because you can never be quite sure where he is? [grin]
There will shortly be no denying I am one of THEM...
I just applied for Medicare and Medigap coverage, effective Sept. 30th. My employer will be VERY happy to pay me enough to cover both, since it is a fraction of what the company must pay for my group insurance. (Like a third or a quarter, eek!)
Running out of excuses to work on consulting jobs that must be worked on today...
I have long flattered myself that I am not a geezer, merely a proto-geezer: old enough to get mailings from the AARP and young enough to be resentful about it! Maintaining that [fiction?] is becoming more difficult...when I start cutting back my hours at Salt Mine No. 2 (currently scheduled for October 2012) it will be well nigh impossible. On the other hand, I am moderately shameless about asking for the old-timers' discounts! And when I needed a cane for a while after my surgeries in 2009, having so many young people open doors for me was nice.
Dr. Dean is most first!
ReplyDeleteTotally amazing pic, listener!
And I am soooooooooo tired. Under the wing!

Well, Einstein seems to be grabbing a bit high. For even a very bright puppy. . . . but I did consider it, lol!

Welcome to the ranks, Alan, lol!
ReplyDeleteNo, Alan, you will soon be one of US.
ReplyDeleteLOL!!

ReplyDeleteI love being old, and I hope to continue with it for some years.
