Well, no traveling today. Late to bed, couldn't sleep, restless as a child. Waking to snow. Weather reporting meaning driving out of snow and then later, out of snow again. Lack of sleep, toothache, knees hurting, tummy upset, and. . . So get a blessedly quiet day, alone. Feeding crows, cat, and chickadees, watching snow fall. Not unhappy. Do the Solstice dinner some time in the coming week. Or not.
Heh! I got a Tufted Titmouse, too!! Haven't seen them in a couple of years. Year before last a pair of house wrens took up residence, and drove away the Carolina Wrens, the Chickadees, the Nuthatches, and the Titmice. When they built a nest directly over my front door, I got tired of cleaning up the poop and took the nest down (winter, no eggs). They were so offended they left, but the other birds have been slow returning. . . .
Hope everybody had a great Christmas. Spent most of the day reading the first novella in Jeff Vendermeer's _City of Saints and Madmen_, which one of my book discussion groups will be doing in January. I may change my mind later, but my immediate reaction is that both the city and the protagonist are certifiably insane. Not quite my sort of thing. But we'll see.
We're home from Maine safe and sound. Son is still here with us...our #4 child, and he'll be staying over. His gifts to everyone brought the warmest, most awed moment of the day. First he gave all three of his nieces toys that make music, but nice sounding music. While they were off in the next room trying them out, he gave each adult a personal, hand-written letter saying what he admires and appreciates about them. He included $20 in each envelope just to give everyone a little fun money. Especially as he is the quietest in the family, people were very moved. His eldest brother told him later they need to get together more. Absolutely wonderful.
I am glad to be home, though. I coughed so much last night and was so stuffed up that I didn't sleep much. Here we'll have the humidifier.
Merry Christmas, puddle! ♥ I'm sorry you couldn't travel but happy you got the beauty of a quiet Christmas complete with a Tufted Titmouse! I admire how well you adjusted to the change in plans. XOXOXXX
