Vermont one week ago...

...after a visit from the White Witch of Narnia! Then came the sun and warmer temps.

  1. Loverly photo, listener.

    That Howard Fella's first.

Words and melody finished. I'm a pooped but very pleased kitty. See y'all later.

    Under the wing.

  2. Hip, Hip! For creative folks! Got various things done today, including pulling some weeds in the front yard. Nice weather, and pulling weeds is therapeutic... a way to deal with suppressed aggression, and also to just let various ideas burble up like swamp gas. After Miyoko got back home with several buckets of persimmons we washed, peeled, and hung same to dry. It goes reasonably fast with two people working together.

  3. Nice work, Alan! I got my gardens to bed on Saturday afternoon. Now I'm ready for snow.

I'm off Under the Wing too, Cat. Got a staff meeting first thing in the morning at the book mine.

But! My Main Squeeze is home from Maine and it's hard to say who is happier...Emma-cat or me!

    :-D

  4. Up early, but think I'm going back to bed, lol! Looking to be a nice day later, but upper thirties right now. And yeppers, sounds like the creativity was just bursting out all over the place.

Alan, what do you *do* with dried persimmons? I've never actually decided if I like them or not, lol! My interpreter in China said when they were kids, they'd put them out on a windowsill to freeze, and then cut off the top, and spoon out the frozen insides: kind of an impromptu persimmon ice cream. I adore the color though, for sure.

  5. You eat them--they're rather like a huge date. In some places they are prepared in such a way that they retain their orange color, and sometimes even are a little soft in the center. Ours are brown, and covered with a thin layer of sugar that naturally comes to the surface. I made a folding wheeled rack for drying them, so during the day they can be put in front of the white garage doors, on the south side of the house, then wheeled in at night. They dry faster that way. They are peeled first, and drying removes the astringency. More pointers available if desired.

  6. Don't cry my angel, this isn't good-bye.
Don't cry my love, though we part for a while.
Your kiss will stay with me, wherever I go,
Your sweet love to guide me, so always I'll know
You are my true love and all through my life
I'll be your companion, your lover and wife.
So, don't cry my angel, although we must part,
I'll go now, but you'll keep my heart.

A little corny, perhaps. But, hey. It's a nice contrast to "Should I Lie?" which is pretty bleak.

This onslaught of creativity is rather unnerving after months and years of nothing. But, what can ya do?

  7. Persimmons are a pretty color. I don't like them, though the dried ones you describe, Alan, do sound good.

  8. What can you do, indeed? Ride the wave, Cat, ride the wave!

And yes, it is the exact flip side of "Should I Lie?"

  9. Thanks, Bill.

Thank you to everyone for being so understanding and encouraging.

  11. This is interesting, via the Blind Catholics group:

Google has offered various ways to obtain driving directions for a while now, but the current implementation brings many of these services under one page. The page, designed for mobile browsers but also quite accessible, allows you to receive driving, walking, public transit, or bicycling directions. The results are text-based and virtually clutter-free. It's especially useful for getting bus route information in the over 400 cities where Google Transit is available including walking directions to bus stops which were difficult to find on the regular Google Transit website.

For further information, visit the following web address:

  12. I got a turkey Saturday; it is now thawing in the back of the wagon (I don't have a big enough refrigerator to thaw it in, lol!). And T-day's at my kid's house, so I don't get leftovers. Well, I do, but not that much. . . . Work's well: I get the legs and Stevie gets the chest.

  14. Sounds like that works out well.

  15. Bill, I can't find your address. Please shoot me a message, cosmoscat@earthlink.net. Thanks.

  16. It gives a fuller picture of both the author and the relationship to read all its moods.

  17. I have nothing for Thanksgiving yet and I really need to be ready because we're going to have a birthday as well as T-day. Ha! Thanks for lighting the pilot light for me. ;-)

  18. After the staff meeting I came home and took a nap, then made about 60 greeting cards for an order. I've called but still haven't heard back from the person who ordered some. She needs to just tell me HOW MANY she wants! LOL! Then I can mail them.

    :-)

  19. Okay, how about helping me with a decision?

I need a new winter coat, a good but economical one. So I chose the LLBean Barn Coat, insulated with Thinsulate. But do I get the "Deep Red" or the "Bottle Blue"?

Red matches the hat Daughter brought me from Paris, but Blue is a colour I tend to wear more often.

Here's the link. You'll have to click on the colour to get the coat to appear.

I actually ordered BOTH and they'll arrive here Wednesday or Thursday. I'll be able to bring the other back to LLBean in person after I choose.

    What's your suggestion?
    THANKS!! :-)

  20. I have a feeling this is a different relationship.

  21. Huh. Placing an order without specifying how many? Rather slapdash, and inconsiderate. I hope you get in touch with her and clear that up ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I vote for the red. They're both nice, but if you wear a lot of blue it might be nice to shake things up a bit. I like the way the brown accents seem "right" with the red, and red is such a nice cheerful color on a snowy day.

Of course, you get the final vote, and it will depend on how you feel each suits you after you try them on.

  23. listener, definitely the blue!

  24. Now I'm running away like the craven coward I am...... Just kidding. I'm really crashing from exhaustion. 'Night.

  25. Night, Susan.

Think I'll be off too. Good night, friends.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, that's a horse of a different colour. :-)

  27. I'm trying to.

I'm not surprised, though, Cat, as she has done that every time she has ordered.
But she has some challenges. She is blind in one eye, wears leg braces, and has some mental struggles too...originally from her stint in Vietnam, but slowly worsening over the years.

We'll work it out. If I don't hear from her soon I'll send 20 since she usually orders between 10 and 40.

  28. Even though it doesn't match my hat?
(The coat does not have a hood.)

    Hat suggestions? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Interesting reasoning. Thanks. I like that I would be safer walking in the woods in the red. And I like that it would match my hat. At the same time, I think I feel more like myself in blue. I'm not a "red" personality. But as it's a deep red, that's a bit more muted, which I like. Hmmm. I may have to close my eyes and reach out and grab the winner. Or flip a coin. LOL!

  30. Funny, I thought everyone here would advocate for Dem Blue over Rep Red. :-D

But I suppose that with a Democrat President and Democrat Governor
it's now safe to "take back the red." 8-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd go for the red, but that's 'cause I just did, lol! I actually I *miss* my oatmeal jacket. . . . I may try to get another winter out of it, if I can find a way to get the newly appeared stains out: still fits well and is beautiful and comfortable and east to wash.

  32. Aren't we a bunch of Reds? Like the song goes, "You ain't done nothin' if you ain't been called a Red." But choosing between colors for coats for someone else is definitely too hard. Matching the hat you got for a present and being obviously different from a deer when walking in the woods both sound like good ideas. But blue is nice too. That blue is pretty muted, though. And darned if I can figure out why one would choose a particular sort of coat to wear to a barn.

In the immortal words of Albert Alligator, "A handsome man looks good in anything he wears." Same goes for a beautiful woman.
