With severe thunderstorms and winds of 70+mph predicted, I gave the Robin's nest an upgrade, adding wide-ribbon ties around the wreath, and securing it to the trellis behind. Then I added a silk scarf as a "seatbelt" for the nest itself.
Mama Robin didn't seem to mind at all.

ReplyDeleteTrump drained the Reflecting Pool to repair the "vandalism." It revealed what appear to be tire tracks instead. Right where his motorcade drove in May. On video. Posted by his own staff.
Rewind to May 4. Trump stood at his freshly painted "American flag blue" pool and bragged about the liner: "if you had a knife, you can't even cut it." Like powerful rubber, he said.
Three days later, his motorcade rolled across the pool floor, armored SUVs and the roughly 20,000-pound presidential limousine, so he could inspect the paint job from his back seat. NBC's cameras filmed the vehicles crossing a visibly wet patch and leaving tire marks in the surface.
The White House communications director posted the video himself, captioned "they see me rolling!"
Weeks later the paint peeled off in chunks and the water turned green. Trump's explanation? Vandals with box cutters. In June the gash was 250 feet. Then 300.
Then 350. Eventually it hit "300 yards," three football fields, growing like a fish story.
His DOJ took it deadly seriously. Six people arrested, seven more cited. Among them: David Hearn, a 67-year-old three-time Olympic canoeist who says he stopped during a bike ride and touched a loose flap of liner floating in the water. He's charged with a felony. He faces up to ten years in prison.
Monday, the water came out. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum laid out the plan with a straight face: drain it, clean it, "repair the vandalism that was done."
Reporters and photographers walked the rim. Newsweek couldn't find any obvious gash in the exposed sections. DC photographer Joe Flood, posting pictures of the basin: "If there's a 350-foot cut in it, I don't see it yet."
What the photos do show are long, parallel, track-like scars in the blue coating.
Honesty about what's proven: nobody has confirmed the marks came from the motorcade, and the Park Service's own court filing documents exactly one cut, a June 9 slice through caulk that the agency declined to call vandalism and that explains neither the peeling nor the algae. Coating experts told Scientific American the likelier culprit is the rushed eight-week job itself, with heavy vehicles on uncured polyurea among the suspects.
Notice what appears on no expert's list anywhere: vandals with box cutters.
When the tire-track theory first surfaced in June, the White House's entire rebuttal was five words: "This is dumb and unfounded." Monday night, Trump raged on Truth Social at ABC's David Muir, insisting "it was VANDALISM!"
Meanwhile the bill has grown from a pitch of under $2 million to $14.7 million and climbing, through a no-bid contract to a company now being paid again to redo its own work. Senator Blumenthal is investigating.
Six Americans are charged with wrecking it. An Olympian faces a decade in prison.
And back in May, Trump told the country his liner was so strong you couldn't cut it with a knife.
For once, he was telling the truth.
Didn't realize the material was still wet. I did consider driving across the dry Reflecting Pool to be foolish and ill advised. So now it turns out that the vandal was Trump. Quelle surprise!
