  1. Israel faces growing pressure over alleged abuse of Gaza flotilla members

I really don’t understand why all the decent nations don’t cut off ALL military aid to Israel over this.

    1. The abuse is not alleged. There is video footage of an Israeli Cabinet minister taunting and humiliating some of the flotilla members - footage the minister uploaded himself. There is testimony from flotilla members after they were released. It's real. It happened, just like it happened to previous flotilla members who were highjacked on the high seas, kidnapped, unlawfully imprisoned and subjected to inhumane treatment including rape. Israelis have been doing this to flotilla members as long as there have been flotillas - if I recall correctly, 2010. No one has cared in all these years. It's nice of a handful of governments to call in their Israeli ambassadors. What needs to be done, and what should have been started decades ago, is a complete, worldwide boycott or shunning of Israel such as was done to South Africa.

  2. When I saw that video of Ben Gvir sticking his tongue out at the flotilla captives it awakened in me the wish that someone would stroll up, hit him with a vicious uppercut and make him bite his own tongue off. Susan

  4. My friend on Long Island wound up not running for Congress. As I feared, the state of her health wouldn't allow it. Instead, she is working behind the scenes, arranging opportunities for candidates to appear at local events as well as helping coordinate petition signature drives. Hope she doesn't wear herself out doing all that. But, as I told her, she is doing very important work. I'm so proud of her.

  5. Here's an opposing view on Platner from the Atlantic, offered in the spirit of ... having opposing views.

    David Frum
To defend Platner, Democrats will have to choose between two strategies: denouncing as liars a possibly growing number of women—or else accepting the stories, but then arguing that twisting a woman’s arm and locking her in a room is not quite the same as beating her. Do they want to haggle over just how inappropriate these romantic relationships were, even as they argue that wearing an SS tattoo throughout most of one’s adult life does not prove that one is a literal Nazi? These are not conversations that Democrats should wish to prolong in a year that might otherwise deal with Trump’s abuses of power, corruption, and economic mismanagement. -- nordy
