My grandparents lived on an island in the middle of the Miami River and they had lots of snapping turtles. They didn't like them because the turtles ate the ducks that landed on the river. My grandpa showed us they were dangerous. There was one on the shore. He poked a broom handle near its mouth and the turtle bit that wooden handle in half the way you'd bit a strand of raw spaghetti.
