  1. When we were walking this morning there was a slight breeze out of the mountains, and I thought it felt cool enough that there might be some snow up there; when it cleared enough to see the crest of the mountains, sure enough there was a little up there.

    1. We experience that too! When Mount Mansfield has snow on its peak, the temp in the valley is always cooler. It makes sense, since cold air is heavier than warm air.

  2. The speed of human thought lags far behind your internet connection, study finds
NYT: In our digital age, few things are more irritating than a slow internet connection. Your web browser starts to lag. On video calls, the faces of your friends turn to frozen masks. When the flow of information dries up, it can feel as if we are cut off from the world.

Engineers measure this flow in bits per second. Streaming a high-definition video takes about 25 million bps. The download rate in a typical American home is about 262 million bps.

Now researchers have estimated the speed of information flow in the human brain: just 10 bps. They titled their study, published this month in the journal Neuron, “The unbearable slowness of being.” -- nordy

    1. Is the speed related to voting patterns? Just asking.

  4. Michael Popok video: US vs. Wong Kim Arc 1898 [Click] In addition to making the intent and effect of the 14th Amendment crystal clear, it also seems to clarify and regularize the status of undocumented resident aliens including Dreamers.
