I feel like the "childless cat ladies" quote is up there with Mitch McConnell's "nevertheless she persisted" as an expression that totally got co-opted by the side it was being used against.
Pumpkin: huge specimen earns Massachusetts man fourth-place win in fair.
(Boston Globe) Steve Connolly of Sharon is truly the heavyweight champion of the Topsfield Fair — he just bagged his fourth win at the fair’s 40th All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. Connolly took first place Friday in the weigh-off with a pumpkin that weighed more than a ton: 2,211 pounds. -- nordy
I'd be willing to wager TWO nickel nut bars that the ancestors of Mr. "go back to where you came from" entered the US without visas. ----Alan P.S.: The last time I checked, a nickel nut bar cost a couple of dollars.
I saw that, Nordy, and it gave me a laugh. If they tried to make themselves look like ignorant fools, they couldn't succeed any better than they already are.
cat, Idaho is a strange place. An addendum that has nothing to do with Idaho, but I just have to tell you: when I was growing up, my best friend was a girl named Catriona. -- nordy
LOL! Yes, I did! But we were out driving and I don't think I'd ever seen your actual name before. It took seeing your note here, just now, then doing a double take on the message you sent to NOTICE your email address and put it all together! Until now I thought the person who sent it must be a cohort on the Cat Ladies site on FB. 😸 😹
I think I'd view him more charitably if he wasn't so intent on having power and influence over people. Apparently yesterday was the first Trump rally he participated in.
Went for a short walk today in hopes of seeing fall foliage. Little to be seen; the trees don't change as quicly as Vermont, probably because the winters are so much colder there. There's still little to see; most of the trees are evergreens and don't change in fall. Only the maples are showing dramatic changes so far. I love fall. -- nordy
The driving we were doing today involved driving down I-89 to Hanover to meet my sister and her spouse for lunch, then driving up I-91 to Newport VT to have dinner with Wil's sister and her spouse. It was sort of a foliage drive, but mostly on the Vermont interstates. We did go up Route 10 in NH, paralleling the CT River. I haven't looked at the photos yet, but I bet there are some nice ones to share.
Northern NH is at peak foliage, but southern NH has another week or two to get to that point. It's running a tad late this year, owing to the warm September. It's still not at peak here on the western side of the Green Mountains, so we had to drive east to see the deep reds.

ahem. not fourth place; fourth first place. -- nordy
DeleteWhew! For a moment there I was wondering what the competition was like if a 2211 pounder got fourth place!

That's a big pumpkin! I wonder if he used the engorgeo charm on it.

Hi Renee.
ReplyDeleteHi, Cat!
DeleteDid you guys see that, at his Butler PA redux rally, von Schitzenpantz joked about the man who quite literally died in his place?
ReplyDeletedidn't see it, but not surprised. -- nordy
DeleteAnd he denigrated the man's widow for saying she would prefer to have her spouse rather than the money.

Yes.
