  1. Bannon Won’t Spend Prison Term at ‘Club Fed’ [Click] “Bannon isn’t eligible for the lowest-level prison setup because he still has a pending criminal case against him in New York” Rather like someone else we know . . . But even Club Fed isn’t what it used to be; no golf courses or lobster barbecues, alas.

  3. The Atlantic: It’s Time to Stop Inviting Plus-Ones to Weddings [Click] Another excellent reason (in my opinion) to not throw a huge bash. My great aunt and uncle were married by a judge in Oakland, California; my parents were married in a minister’s parlor, with my father’s best friend and his wife as witnesses; my sweetie and I were married in a matched pair of civil procedures at the US Embassy in Tokyo and the local city office. They all worked out well.

  5. ‘Evacuate immediately’: New Mexico villagers told to flee fast-moving fire [Click] The writers and editors of The Guardian seem to have a strange idea of what a “village” is. I’d say that a community with a population of seven thousand would be a city, albeit not a megalopolis.

    1. Along the same lines: Paris can wait: how we dodged the summer crowds by Interrailing to Europe’s smaller towns [Click] Unquestionably cities, it seems to me. And I continue to be puzzled by the way so many Britons seem to vacation on the Continent, when Britain has so many long established resorts.

    2. I grew up outside a city of five thousand; within cycling distance the other way was a city of five hundred.

    3. In Illinois, a municipality can choose to incorporate as a city, town, or village without the choice having any slightest effect. I believe the Village of Oak Park has a population of about 70,000.

    3. This story appears just as a record-breaking heat wave threatens the eastern U.S. Thank goodness it's not that hot here--yet. A couple days of temps in the low 80s are expected later this week. So our brains are still intact for now. --nordy

  7. Via politicalwire.com:
RNC co-chair Lara Trump suggested on Fox News that if Donald Trump has a bad debate next week it’s because Joe Biden is on drugs.
    1. It is yet to be seem if Trump shows up for the "debate."
    2. I do wonder what drugs Biden could take that would scramble Trump's brains.

  11. Boeing again.
Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun testifies today before a U.S. Senate subcommittee. What always promised to be a hot, uncomfortable reception for him now seems set to be a roasting, Seattle Times reports.
Late Monday, the Democratic majority on the subcommittee released a 200-page document to the press containing allegations from a new Boeing whistleblower alleging manufacturing fraud and deception at the 737 MAX final assembly plant.
There seems to be no end to this. --nordy

    1. What could possibly go wrong if you replace engineers with MBA's? Just asking for a friend.

    2. It has been my longstanding observation that the best managers come up through the ranks. The curricula for MBA's seem downright ridiculous; they seem to be taught that businesses are thoroughly interchangeable inputs for the accounting department. A pickle factory? A hospital? An international shipping company? A grocery store? All the same.
