  3. Republican men - and too many women - seem to equate helplessness and femininity. That is, the weaker you are, the more deferential, the more hyper-groomed and breathy, the more "feminine". Boy, are they wrong! ---Susan

    1. I am reminded of the encounter of Diana and Actaeon, as well as other examples.

    1. Terrible fellow that I am, I find myself imagining EJ Carroll suing Trump for defamation a third time, and being awarded three times the sum of the previous two awards.

  5. It has stopped now, but it was raining when we got up this morning. Our typical light rain, but still rain.

  6. Legal action could end use of toxic sewage sludge on US crops as fertilizer [Click] That has been a big problem for a long time, and not just with respect to PFAS; I hope it gets fixed.

    1. On a somewhat related note, recently I watched a video from a Ukrainian drone boat approaching a fairly large Russian surface ship. It looked like the Russian sailors were firing at it with assault rifles, or perhaps machine guns, and missing. I looked up CIWS (Close-In-Weapons-Systems) and discovered that Russian CIWS are designed to deal with only airplanes and perhaps missiles, unlike the US Phalanx [humorously R2D2], which (like those of some but not all others) is also designed to deal with small, fast-moving surface vessels (think pirates or Iranian speedboats).

  8. So today I had a medical appointment. Back in November a cardiac arythmia turned up. I wore a heart monitor for two weeks in January and it confirmed the diagnosis. Today I saw an electrophysiologist (cardia sub-specialist on arythmias). This type of arythmia isn't particularly dangerous, but she prescribed Metropol. This not only addresses arythmia but is a blood pressure medication: The medications that have kept my blood pressure in control for a quarter century are rpoving no longer adequate. She also asked me to schedule an echocardiogram, just in case.

    1. Wow, that's a lot to take in, but it sounds like you are in good care and doing all you need to do. So that's good news.

  9. 🌟BIG NEWS!🌟 Youngest just won a seat on his school board as a write-in candidate!!! 🥳

Apparently their town (in NH) doesn't do a town meeting, but the people who show up for an info meeting get to amend things. A group of people showed up and, angry about property taxes rising, amended the town and school budgets ~ neither of which was affecting property taxes. DUH. The budget cuts they were pushing would have laid off several school teachers, including speicial ed, and classroom size would rise to 26. So he offered to run as a write-in and just learned he won! Hurrah!

    2. Congratulations and sympathies to youngest. I don't really understand the background. Here the school budgets are the biggest part of property taxes but are set by the respective school boards.

  10. President Biden's win in Georgia tonight put him over the top and he has officially won the Democratic nomination. We knew he would. But the fun part is that DT has not yet won the Republican nomination.

  11. National Geographic video UFOs: Investigating the Unknown [Click]
I notice that they do no mention foo fighters [Click] reported in both the European and Pacific theaters of operations during WWII.

My opinion is that if such an extraterrestrial flying object had been found, humans would have set to work to reverse-engineer from it anything they could, and we are pretty good at that. If that had happened, it would have been turned to military use, and so far it does not seem that we are using any military technology that cannot be traced back to established terrestrial origins. Could they have set to work to invent a terrestrial back story for such technology? That seems possible, but unlikely.

    1. The behavior of UFOs often strikes me as robotic, which would be reasonable. It would also be reasonable to plan for the possibility of the occasional loss; they ought to be accompanied by a recovery vehicle (sort of an interstellar tow truck) to keep primitive creatures from finding them. IMO.
