The columnists posit that it might have been made by Homo heidelbergensis (it is too early to have been made by Homo erectus, so far as we know). But Homo heidelbergensis is supposedly from Europe, not Africa. And I remain very skeptical about whether there ever was such a species as H. heidelbergensis because the type specimen is only a single jawbone, and the later examples given the name can be interpreted as early neanderthals. Bill, good point about poison ivy being a toxin not an allergy! I envy your immunity to it. I imagine that researchers could isolate what makes a person immune and find a way to make a vaccine or at least antidote.
I thought I remembered there being a doctor-administered antidote, but checking Mayo Clinic there's only oral corticosteroids if it's really serious. Immunity isn't terribly rare, though ti's not particularly common.

ReplyDeleteSo glad I popped by to post this:
Half-million-year-old wooden structure unearthed in Zambia
It's clearly been woodworked to fit logs together, yet it's significantly older than human fossils.
