Halfway between hatching and fledging

New York Times: “The sheriff of Fulton County, Ga., said on Tuesday that if former President Donald Trump were to be indicted in connection with efforts to overturn the 2020 election in the state, he would not receive special treatment, and would be booked and photographed like any other defendant.”

“The Fulton County district attorney, Fani T. Willis, has signaled that she will bring indictments in the matter by the middle of the month.”

    1. (Susan) It seems pretty clear that Rudy is Co-Conspirator 1. I don't know where in the pecking order Lindsey Graham is, but I'm sure he and Sidney Powell are in there too.

    2. Identities of five of the six co-conspirators seem to be fairly clear. [Click] As does the fact that they have very little time left to escape their just punishments by turning state’s evidence.

    1. Good article!

    2. The article focuses on the City of Chicago, but Oak Park also has permeable brick alleys and sidewalks. I presume the northwest suburbs do too, which would be why we no longer are seeing flash floods in the Des Plaines River that overtop the flood plain and force homeowners across the street to use sandbags to keep the water out.

I thought they would mention the Deep Tunnel Project, which stores storm water until it can be process. But that goes back to the 1970s, so I suppose it's old news.

  4. I slept 8.5 hrs last night, and half of that in my own bed instead of the recliner! The new-to-me specialised antihistamine worked great. If it happens two nights in a row, I will feel like I'm on my way back to normal life!

    2. That's wonderful news, Listener!

Er, not to be a wet blanket, but two in a row does not necessarily a roll make. Dad had those two good nights, but then a bad one last night. So, take what you can get, but don't expect a whole lot.

    3. Yeah, Cat, I hear you. Two in a row would be so good, though, as it's been a month since that happened and I have a lot of sleep to catch up on. Last night, when I made it to 4 hours of sleep by 3am, I couldn't stop smiling, thinking it was a good bet I'd get at least a few more! So much better than 1.5 to 3 hours a night.

  7. Miyoko's youngest aunt, who lived with Miyoko and her family and is like an older sister to her, did not answer the telephone this afternoon; neither did her daughter. We hope nothing is wrong, but can't help worrying; she is about 84 years old, and a wonderful person. Probably because of the news about the Robert Oppenheimer movie, I am reminded that near the end of the war the passenger train she was riding in was attacked by American fighter aircraft. The train came to a screeching halt and everyone who could dove into the ditches alongside the tracks. Which in turn reminds me of the horrendous thoughtlessness of Warner Brothers in releasing the Barbie and Oppenheimer movies together in Japan. God knows it's bad enough to do it in the US.

    2. I thought I had read that Oppenheirmer had not been released in Japan. Although Warner's Japanese affiliate is unhappy about the way the movie was advertised.

  8. Well, our sweet little Robin chicks have come to an unfortunate end. Today they jumped out of the nest 3-4 days early, and even when we put them back into the nest, they simply jumped out again. Worst of all, there is something wrong with them as their legs don't work properly. They cannot even stand. PhD*Son says it's probably a disease. When the first one jumped out a second time, we checked in with a rehabber before we could reach PhD*Son (he's currently out doing fieldwork). We just wanted advice. They wanted us to scoop up all three chicks into a box, feed them fruit every 20 minutes for 4 hours, then bring them to a rehabber. BUT! The parents were still feeding them! PhD*Son who is, after all, an ornithologist, said that the parents could do a far better job feeding them than an human could. He also did not think that they had much of a chance of survival. So, we made the hard decision to let nature take its course, and let them have the time with their parents. Well, two of them scooted away (on their sides!) and we have no idea where they went. The third (whom I thought was still in the nest, but it was empty), lay on the porch on a pet bed and just being miserable. Then the parents stopped coming. That really broke my heart! I finally put the little one back in its nest...and as it's too weak to jump out again, it stayed there. I just didn't want a cat to find it on the porch, and I thought it might be a little more comfortable in a familiar place than exposed on the porch floor. But it's all too much, in this truly awful month or so when we've had wicked flooding in Vermont and I've been running on empty. We're now calling it The Summer of Our Discontent. May the wheel turn soon!

    2. I cleaned up the remains today. The poor birds were COVERED in mites! They jumped out of an infested nest. And it was all right outside our front door. Makes me glad we stopped using that entrance. Makes me wonder what more we need to do besides wash down and Lysol in the area. I immediately changed and laundered what I wore when cleaning it all up.
