Alan posted on the last thread: Splash-down scheduled for 1240 hrs ET. And upon reflection I suppose only an old person would "tune in."
Well, not only did Wil and I tune in, but Eldest (47) and Youngest (40) tuned in, along with three of our younger grands, ages 9, 7, and 4...!
Me: What did the kids think of the Splashdown? Youngest: Your Grandson thought it was really cool and Younger Sister thought it was boring. 😛 But they did seem to actually think it was an impressive feat. Littlest was just excited that something was going to make a big splash in the water! Me: 🤣
VT*Grand (15), upon seeing the photo: It’s peppermint! Me: 🤣
"The Keystone Pipeline ruptured Wednesday night near a creek in northern Kansas, spilling what its operator, TC Energy, says is about 14,000 barrels of oil. This is equivalent to about 588,000 gallons (an Olympic swimming pool holds about 666,000 gallons). TC Energy says the leak is now contained.
"This is the largest land-based crude pipeline spill in the U.S. in nine years. Although the Keystone Pipeline has leaked 22 times before this, this week’s spill is bigger than all the others put together."
True, But this leak is quite small compared to those I remember from decades ago. Things are getting better. (And you can now safely eat the fish you catch in the Chicago River.)
The rumors of a nuclear fusion test with a net positive energy yield at the National Ignition Facility in Livermore continue to circulate. More information will allegedly be forthcoming Tuesday. I have my doubts that the technology used at the NIF can be scaled up. ---Alan
Just saw an email from Adam Frisch. As expected, the recount didn't affect the results -- a net total of four votes changed, leaving Frisch 546 behind. Out of more than 327,000 cast. Much, much closer than any of the so-called experts predicted.
Oh hurrah!! At last, at last, after sequestering myself for three weeks (I was struck home sick anyway), I have just finished putting together our annual volume of Grand Moments ~ 52 pages of funny things the grands have said along with their interests, achievements and foibles, complete with photos. It's hilarious and heartwarming and soooo much work. I pull together things their parents have posted, bits the older ones have texted, and what we glean from visits with them, lots of fun, and the best part is that the ones who can read, immediately start perusing it when it's given out...because it's about them! 🤣

I have a vivid memory of watching the first Mercury flight take off, live on national TV.

DeleteIt is amazing that all this damage has been done in just my lifetime! 80 years.
