  1. Splash down! Just like the old days!

It’s set to splash down at 12:40 p.m. ET Sunday in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico’s Baja California. NASA will air live coverage of the event, beginning at 11 a.m. ET Sunday.

    1. These days they seem significantly more confident about where it will splash down. It's nearly 11 AM now, and the weather is pretty nice here in central California. Thanks for the heads-up; I will tune it in.

    2. Splash-down scheduled for 1240 hrs ET. And upon reflection I suppose only an old person would "tune in."

  2. Letter by Vlad Dracula tested for physical clues about him. [Click] Amazing quality of writing—one must call it calligraphy— and presumably done with a quill pen, given its age.

  3. Best discussion I have seen this morning of the Ukrainian strike in Melitopol [Click] This could be a considerably more significant incident than initial reports indicate.

    1. Tesla was able to convert the GM/Toyota plant in Fremont, California to produce EV's only after the plant was closed and became available at a fire sale price--and even then it required years and huge investment to even get started and it is still not nearly as productive as the new purpose-built Tesla plants.

    2. I am truly surprised that Chrysler has lasted as long as it has, after being wrecked by the venture capitalists who gained control. I suppose it retained value to Fiat as a foothold in the US car market. I never could see any point in Jeep vehicles, but they had lots of buyers despite being gas hogs-- probably a romantic attraction kept afloat by advertising. We had a Plymouth minivan and also a small Dodge sedan (I don't recall the model name); their quality was definitely inadequate.

    3. PhD*Son always wished he could have a Jeep...but never would have wasted the Earth's resources that way. It was because of their ability to go places biologists need to go. But no matter, because his crew uses ATVs where necessary and other small off-road capable vehicles. He did outrun a waterspout on an ATV once.

    3. No problem, puddle. I'm not going anywhere. I've had cataracts removed from both eyes. I was terrified at the thought of it because *my eyes!", but it turned out to be pretty easy and not nearly as traumatic as I imagined it. My surgeries were several months apart because the second one was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

    4. MIne are preventing the doc from seing my retinas at all, so I have a ways to go on this trip. The colorful patches I have in my vision make me a good deal blinder than the cataracts do, and she basically can't diagnose or treat until the cataracts are cleared. I liked/trusted her enormously though. Also need to clear up hearing issues. . . . .
