  1. I am informed by e-mail that my ballot has been received and counted; pretty smooth!

    Worried about the economy?

“[Yesterday] the administration announced that the deficit this year fell by $1.4 trillion. This was largest-ever decline in the federal deficit. Last year’s drop was $350 billion.

“According to Politifact, Republican presidents since Ronald Reagan have exploded deficits, while Democrats have brought deficits down. Reagan sent the deficit from $70 billion to $175 billion. George H.W. Bush took it to $300 billion. Bill Clinton—with help from Bush’s willingness to raise taxes—got the deficit to zero. George W. Bush took it back up to $1.2 trillion with unfunded wars. Barack Obama cut that back to $600 billion. And Trump’s tax cuts sent it skyrocketing again, even before pandemic spending sent it higher still.”

    Please vote wisely.

    1. Dollars are IOUs. Whether Congress sends out more than come back as revenue largely depends on Congress' willingness t use the currency to provide necessary services or prefers to have bankers make decisions.
If more dollars came back than expected, it is likely because they circulated with greater allacrity. Dollars that sit in vaults or are passed around by stock speculators do not do us much good.
Often, when Republicans whine about something like inflation, it is a false complaint.

  3. STAND BACK! Big bunch of links. And the ten-day weather forecast is for high temperatures all in the 70's F.

GOP voters advised to not vote by mail. [Click] It’s certainly not news that they have no idea how voting works. I wonder how many of them will try to vote twice, “to test the system.”

    1. So, the press reports problems that might discourage voters, instead of admitting that so far, in Georgia, there have been more early voters than in 2020. What should be in the papers is that today is one of the Saturday voting days.
Why doesn't the press like early voting? Because those people are less susceptible to last minute advertising. Early voting and voting by mail is harder to predict. Which is exactly what many voters want. Many people do not like people knowing how they voted.

    2. I can't say anything about TV or social media, but I have the impression that there is very little political advertising in the week or two before early and mail voting begins. I suppose that people who figure out how they are going to vote well in advance are unlikely to be influenced by last-minute advertising.

    3. "GOP voters advised to not vote by mail."

That seems good to me. In fact, how about they just don't vote at all?

In Vermont, ballots have been mailed to EVERY registered voter. You can mail it back (for free), drop it off in your local ballot box or at your town hall, or bring it to the polls on Election Day. Easy Peasy.

    4. Voting is pretty much the same here.

  5. I think our media is failing us miserably. Fox does nothing but spread poisonous lies and apparently CNN is heading Fox-ward in a quest for higher ratings. Media is looking out for media and not for America.

    1. I'm watching that CNN shift closely. So far Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper seem reliable. Not so sure about the others. One thing I've noticed on CNN's website is that there are more little article headliners that complain about something Biden is doing and more bits mentioned that are actually Republican talking points. Not acceptable.

No surprise there...DT thinks everything belongs to him. Never got past pre-school. What did he think "on the record" meant?

  7. We drove to the NH seacoast today to visit with Wil's brother and SIL. Then we traveled to mid-NH to see our DIL's new art studio. (She contracted the location, which has four studios and a nice size kitchen, and is renting out three of the studios, thereby getting her studio for free!) Then we went to the house (Youngest and DIL spouse) and had dinner with them and three of our grands! Got home around 11:00pm and am about to fall into bed. It was totally worth it.
