Russia’s Credit Rating Slashed [Click] “holders of Russian debt must receive interest payments in roubles” With the value of the rouble converging on that of the rasbucknik, that would make current Russian bonds about as valuable as Tsarist railway bonds (which at least have very nice engraving).

US may revoke Russian most favored nation status [Click] Canada did so last week.

Story posted on Friday: Ukraine war a ‘catastrophe’ for global economy as stock markets plunge. Moscow stock exchange remained closed during the week, while the rouble fell to record lows [Click] A dollar bond repayment by Gazprom on Monday will be a litmus test of the government’s . . . willingness to pay external debt. . .”

    1. I suspect the loss may be more than 10%.

    2. Yes; I feel sorry for the Russian civilians, but it is the least bad response that is practical.

  4. Intruder Prompts Lockdown as Vice President Lands [Click] The damned fool didn’t have a chance of getting through. I haven’t been to Andrews AFB, but inspection of the Google Satellite View shows that the main gate is built about like the one at McChord AFB, which I have visited several times. A little way past the pass inspection station there are honking big barriers set flat in the roadway that the casual observer wouldn’t notice; but they are obviously made to rotate up in seconds, and are big enough to stop any truck or tank. By the time the intruder saw them it would have been too late. And it doesn’t hurt that I am telling that here; probably at least hundreds of thousands of people have seen the gate security there.

    1. To be exact, I have seen those honking big pop-up barriers at McChord and assume they are present at Andrews as well. Very reasonably, the Google Satellite View doesn't show them.

    2. And Google Street View doesn't work there either.

  5. Have you all found the CNN Lite site? puddle may especially appreciate it, as it doesn't require as much to load it. It's just the clickable headlines, no photos. I appreciate being able to read through the titles quickly.

    1. Thanks for that, listener. Putin's aggression is nothing less than mass murder, an attempt to exterminate the people of Ukraine. When he is found guilty of war crimes - and he will be - I hope he is executed in public so anyone who wants to can see it.

    2. I could be wrong, but I have doubts that Putin will have the fortitude to exit the way Hitler did.

    3. Yes, that CNN Lite is much more convenient than the displays all cluttered up with photos—it’s a step back in time, and a good one. The items that particularly attracted me are:

    4. A national anti-lynching bill, that is.

    5. I am thrilled beyond description that we'll soon have a national anti-lynching bill signed into law! And it's wonderful that it's in Emmett Till's name. (Sure took long enough, eh?)

    6. Emmett Till was murdered 12 days before I was born.

How I wish his Mama could have known about this law.
