Via ABC News: In a White House list of weapons being sent to Ukraine as part of a new $800 million military support package announced by President Joe Biden Wednesday -- among nearly 10,000 anti-armor weapons, 800 anti-aircraft Stinger systems, and thousands of rifles -- appeared 100 "tactical unmanned aerial systems." “A surge in coronavirus infections in Western Europe has experts and health authorities on alert for another wave of the pandemic in the United States, even as most of the country has done away with restrictions after a sharp decline in cases,” the Washington Post reports.
“Jeffrey Zients, . . . who steered President Biden’s coronavirus response through successive pandemic waves and the largest vaccination campaign in American history, plans to leave the White House in April to return to private life,“ the New York Times reports. “Mr. Zients will be replaced as the White House Covid coordinator by Dr. Ashish Jha, the dean of the Brown University School of Public Health and a practicing internist who has urged an aggressive approach to the pandemic in frequent television appearances.”

More about the Pentagon estimate of Russian casualties in Ukraine: [Click] At least 7,000 dead and 14,000 to 21,000 injured. That is an extraordinary proportion of deaths to injuries; for US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan it was about 20 injuries per death. I take that as evidence that the Russian battlefield medical services are very poor. I see no mention of the sort of medivac swoop- and- scoop method that the US developed in Vietnam. Not quite as bad as WWI, though— that was 1.5 injuries per death.

Hey, folks, we did it. We actually got our hybrid Maverick truck today...! And it's better than expected. More about that soon. Just sooo happy! Wil took the day off and I was able to move a meeting from afternoon to morning, before we went to get the truck. So, this afternoon we took a nice drive that included stop and go traffic, interstate and back roads and ... we got 44.5mpg on just 87 octane. It also came with all its microchips, because even the heated seats work. Talk about a LUCKY day! And since we picked it up on St. Patrick's Day, I think we may call it The Paddy Wagon! 🤣
