Star Gazing

  1. That anonymous rant responding to my entry about The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity is really a choice bit of demented propaganda. It's really quite amazing that anyone would be so committed to conventional points of view on the evolution of human society that they would go to the trouble of typing it. (I suspect that it was just cut and pasted.) Small wonder it was posted anonymously.

    1. I did not know one could post anonymously. That said, the person's comments remind me of some of the spam that showed up on Hannah Blog until I finally eliminated all commenting and all link capabilities. AG James' posts on Facebook have recently attracted some totally irrelevant comments. Perhaps they are simply the contemporary version of calling people on the phone and asking if their fridge is running.

  3. This morning Miyoko spotted a big owl next to its nest in one of the willow trees in the river bottom, just below our house.

    1. Ooooh, what sort of owl? Bard? Great Horned? Did it hoot at all? Listen after dark tonight and see if you hear it.

    2. Our binoculars aren't powerful enough to see, but it was big. Could have been a great horned owl. We have recently been hearing more owls at night.

    3. Maybe google their calls and see if you can identify them. So interesting! We've had Bard Owls for years, and the couple of years when we didn't there was a Great Horned Owl nesting in the woods nearby.

    4. Up this way, owls begin nesting mid-February. I wonder if it's nearly nesting time over your way, Alan. Maybe they're currently choosing just the right location.

    1. Thanks, Alan. We began the season with just the Angel, but it was rather dark at the top of the tree. Looked for a good lighted Star, but they were always too heavy for the tree, or too ugly to buy. Then we found this Star, which is intended to be hung in a window...and instead hung it in the Angel's arms. We love it! The funny thing is that it comes with a remote with 8 possible settings. One's Star can flash in various patterns or fade in and out. We just like it lit. LOL.

    2. I didn't look closely, and didn't realize it was a cooperative decoration; so much the better!

  7. Alan, sorry about the anony mouse, but that's the job of such mice, to run around and pee and poop on everything thing they find. sigh

  8. I have deleted the annoying mouse's comment, since they weren't forthcoming enough to sign their epistle.

Yes, folks can post anonymously, and we need that feature for when Blogger goes batty and dumps one of us out of our account. Alan used to always post that way...but he always signed his name!

  9. I would have been by sooner today, but the day was completely different than I'd planned.

Got a call from the person at Social Security who has had my file for nearly 2 months, and discovered that the document I faxed to him on December 7th was never received. They are all working from home and he was very clear that it was not at all my fault, but likely the manager dropped the ball, as it's only the managers who are going in to the office (where, I assume, the fax arrived). The remedy was for me to send it again, either as a fax to him or as a paper document to my local SSA office. Out of an abundance of intention and compliance, I did BOTH today. He said there are no obstacles now, so it looks like I may receive my first SS payment this month! Whoo hoo! I guess we'll see. Once I have the letter of approval, I can finally set up Medicare to begin in April.

AND! After some emailing with our salesguy, we got word that the Maverick hybrid we ordered back on June 12th is "produced" and we now can see that the modules (electronics) are populated (live)! That's great news.

Shipping should be pretty much next, unless they're still waiting on some item or other. The Tracker updated to say the Delivery of the truck should happen on (wait for it)...February 13th.

Thud. That's later than I even was bracing myself for! But at least there's progress.

    1. February 13th is a Sunday. So the Service Dept won't be able to look it over and add a few accessories for us until Monday. Wouldn't it be sweet to pick up our RED Maverick hybrid pickup truck on Valentine's Day? ❤️. LOL! Might have to name it Valentino or Cupid or something. Ideas?

  10. We got the second persimmon tree pruned. It's a little early for spraying with oil and sulphur, but maybe next I should attack the tangelo tree that up and died on us. I think I should sign up for Stark Brothers e-mails, so I don't miss their Spring sale--they said they will next have the sort of peach we want available in Spring, February or March.
