Yup. CNN projects Newsom the winner based on the numbers and past history of each county. Bodes well. How well? It bodes so well that Newsom has already given his victory speech.
“Over the weekend, the state reported 405 total new cases and three additional deaths. Saturday’s total of 222 cases was the highest one-day count since April 10.
“Totals for Saturday and Sunday were increased from the counts initially reported. Saturday’s total jumped from 184 to 222, and Sunday’s total moved from 141 to 183. Case counts have recently been retroactively increased on a daily basis.“
Sky seems covered with high smoke, ground level AQI 55, no wind (well, "gusts" to one mph). Slightly less hot--predicted high 97F. Some evacuations near the fire in Sequoia National Forest (next county over).
Maybe we will have something approaching a final result in our gubernatorial recall election some time this evening; the vote count seems to have stopped at 3AM. It takes longer when there are a lot of mail ballots, as there are this time. But the trend looks good.
The QAnon "believers" need to read Isaiah 53, also known as the Suffering Servant passage.
53:6a: "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way..."
In Scripture, these are the people who have caused the righteous One to have to suffer and make intercession for the transgressors. THEY are the transgressors!
15 SEPT 2021 Total increase: 208 cases 1 more death (292) 3498 active cases in Vermont! Positivity rate down to 3.4% Recovered rate down .3% to 87.6% (highest was 95.8%)
When your only ambition is to be noticed, you tend to do really stupid stuff. For quite a long time now, the Republican party has just been some sort of social club for members to show off. Personally, I think the parties should be decertified in states where their positive contributions to the selection of candidates for public office has proved deficient. A corporation or organization should not have to be convicted of a crime to be decertified. Noe should membership be determinative. Football ticket holders are more signficant than Republicans.
The Tribune's vaccine tracker has dramatically revised its estimates of the number of first vaccinations. Yesterday the number for Cook County was just short of 74% of the entire population. Today it is a bit over 63%. But that eliminates the puzzlingly large gap between first and second vaccination numbers, which stand at something over 58%.
4PM results on Calif. gubernatorial recall (all precincts reporting, all counts incomplete): 64% to 36%. Not bad.
Back in 2018, "Newsom easily won in a landslide, with 62% of the vote, the biggest victory in a gubernatorial race in California since Earl Warren won re-election in 1950, and the biggest victory for a non-incumbent since 1930. The election also marked the first time Orange County has voted for the Democratic candidate since Jerry Brown won it in 1978, and the first time Democrats have won three consecutive gubernatorial elections in the state's history." (Wikipedia)
I'd say that if Newsom's vote this time is greater than his winning vote in 2018, it should be hard to argue that he has lost support of the general populace.

Yep, lookin' pretty good. I never have been thrilled with Newsom, but he doesn't deserve to be recalled.

From CNN: Elder acknowledged Newsom had prevailed Tuesday night, speaking on stage in Costa Mesa in front of supporters. When he mentioned Newsom's name and the crowd booed, Elder said, "Let's be gracious in defeat."

ReplyDeleteIt occurs to me that they may have been mistakenly quoting percentage of those eligible for the vaccine rather than of the entire population.
