  1. Capitol Police chief dropped request for armed National Guard to be on standby for Saturday’s rally after Pentagon discussions [Click]:

“The U.S. Capitol Police chief formally asked for 100 armed National Guard members to be on standby for a rally this Saturday at the Capitol in case it turns violent, but withdrew the request at the urging of a top Senate security official who said he had not followed protocol,” the Washington Post reports.

“But the change to the chief’s original security plans infuriated some Capitol Police officials. They privately argued it was a foolhardy repeat of a central mistake that had left the Capitol so vulnerable during the Jan. 6 protests — not preparing for the worst.”

Jesus H. Christ. I sure hope Biden doesn’t let this slide.

    1. It's not clear to me that Biden has anything to say in the matter. This looks like a legislative branch decision.

    2. You have to wonder what the heck was behind this decision!!

The Capitol Police might want to boycott it and let Congress deal with it themselves. SHEESH!!!

    3. CNN just reported that the 100 National Guard troops will be on standby nearby. So that’s something…along with the fence up around the Capitol.

  2. Yesterday I washed dishes for two hours. It's a job I put off because I hate it so much. Once I was done I started cooking. I cooked from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Now I have two more hours of dishes to wash. Maybe tomorrow...

  3. JUST heard that "65 and older" may be allowed the booster shot. Sign me up! (Despite having had a strong response to the 2nd shot.) I just wish all the children were already vaccinated and everyone was offered the booster, and the whole world had access to vaccine!!

    1. Pfizer vaccine only. I had the Modrna. And while the experts singled out people my age for special treatment, I'd like to see the evidence for myself.

    2. I had Pfizer.

And, as I understand it, it's okay to have another type for the booster.

    3. There is no evidence whatsoever for mix-and-match. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. Who knows?

    4. Ah, Bill, you (and you, Susan) may be fine anyway.

Moderna's vaccine is the most effective, but Pfizer and J&J also protect well, CDC-led study says
      https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/17/health/moderna-vaccine-most-effective-cdc-study/index.html

In a study of hospitalised patients:
      Moderna 93% effective
      Pfizer 88% effective
      J&J 71% effective

Pfizer's 91% effectiveness drops after the 4th month, and may be down around 77% after 120 days.
There is apparently more mRNA in Moderna, and there is a week longer between doses.
      Yup. I want the booster!

    5. We will get it as soon as it becomes available; I could probably have gotten it sooner if I had been willing to lie, but I figure the reservation system (run by the state) would have made the lie detectable in time, if not immediately. Not worth the potential trouble.
