  2. Another hot day, 110-ish again. I found a reporting thermometer near our house that read 104F yesterday when the nearest full weather station recorded 111F; it seems to be in a location similar to our back yard. We may do a little yard work today, but not much.

  3. We had a couple of very small power disturbances a little while ago; maybe a vehicle hit a power pole.

  4. Nuclear energy: Fusion plant backed by Jeff Bezos to be built in UK [Click] Made by General Fusion. [Click] This seems to be pilot plant sized, years ahead of and far, far less expensive than ITER [Click] Darned if it doesn’t look like they might pull it off; ITER might be outmoded before it ever produces a kilowatt.

    1. If General Fusion should pull it off, ITER will probably be the most expensive pile of junk in history.

  5. Still pretty hot (107F, 109F--your choice); our short excursion to pick fruit has been delayed from 5PM to 7PM.

  6. Alan, I worry that your weather will come get us, but looking at my weather projections, most of next week is in the 70s, so mebbe your stuff is headed to Canada or Florida?

    1. I think it's just going to hang around here. Tree ring studies indicate the Southwest US is several years into the worst drought since 1200 years ago--and I think that is the one that lasted for forty years. There is a big fire over in Big Sur, 120 miles from here are the crow flied, and the smoke was quite visible all around this evening.

On another note, the ground squirrels have been raiding our fruit trees again. Miyoko noticed that they were even eating small green persimmons, so decided to try giving them the peaches we were thinning, as well as other damaged fruit, and it seems to have worked perfectly! We tossed the fruit we didn't want into the bottom of the old canal below the bluff at the back of our property, through which the squirrels must pass to get to our yard, and didn't see another one all day!

    2. Gotta remember to proofread! "120 miles from here are the crow filed" should read "120 miles from here as the crow flies." Avast!
