  2. Dust Storms and Valley Fever in the American West [Click] High-tech monitoring systems. Would that the US government were to fund development of a vaccine; academic efforts have been under way for decades, but it has been treated as an orphan disease. Maybe it would be easy enough to develop a mRNA vaccine.

  3. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-interested-running-house-seat-102300920.html

"The Speaker strategy was previously touted by Steve Bannon, who told a group of Boston Republicans in February that Trump should run for Congress in 2022, the Boston Herald reported.

"We totally get rid of Nancy Pelosi, and the first act of President Trump as Speaker will be to impeach Joe Biden for his illegitimate activities of stealing the presidency," Bannon said, according to the Herald."

I cannot grasp that level of public insanity. Where are the men in the white coats with their nets? Half of our country seems to have gone coocoo bananas!

    1. Somewhat less than half, fortunately. We can still pull out of this. But MAN it's a job and a half!

  6. How can you tell the difference between the egret in flight and the great blue heron>

    1. I see I have to stop reading the blog from bottom to top! LOL!

The Great Egret is white and smaller. The Great Blue Heron is taller, bigger and gray-blue. And where I was, I could see them both at the same time.

    2. The fun ones to try to tell apart are the Great Egret and the Snowy Egret. Both are white with black legs. The Great has black feet and the Snowy has yellow feet. That's mostly the difference. LOL! SO when they're wading, you just have to wait until they come ashore or fly.

  7. Fashion column headline from today’s Washington Post:
”The problem with the world reopening: We don’t know how to get dressed anymore.
    And our pants don’t fit.”
Why not something along these lines? [Click] Show some imagination and creativity! One can also find some very nice looking brigandines.

  9. Funny thing, I haven't bought clothes in years, and just went on a buying spree, lol! several Van Gogh tops and four pair of pants, and a couple of dresses. Just for me, 'cause I never go anywhere.

  10. Also 'cause I've lost a lot a weight this last year/six months. Doc wouldn't up diuretics, so I went keto. So lost a lotta water, but also weight. I haven't weighed this little since before Edwin.

"“We know exactly what he’s going to say — the election was rigged, stolen,” Heye said, speaking with NPR. “He’ll tease running for president again. ‘Wouldn’t you love me to run again? Well, I’m thinking about it….’ And he’ll take shots at those who voted to impeach [him].”

“That Trump is doing a state party convention makes sense,” he added. “It’s a controlled environment and doesn’t risk the empty seats he could have at a rally — no more football stadiums.”

We assume Heyes’ comment is in reference to Trump’s embarrassing Tulsa rally last June that was little more than empty seats and a few stragglers after his campaign spent days bragging that it was overbooked."

  12. Well, that was interesting...

We took care of 3 grands this afternoon and evening, so Mom & Dad could do some interior painting at home. At one point the youngest (age 2 3/4) fell asleep on the rug...a little early for her bedtime but really only by about an hour. But when we checked on her, she was hot. I took her temp and it was 104.7ºF!!! Yikes!

Big*Brother (age 8) was so cool. He kept suggesting ways to bring her fever down. Very proud of him.
    “We should remove her blanket.”
    “She needs a cool cloth.”
“Get her some really cold water to drink.”

    Awesome. So proud of him.
We got her fever down to 103.5ºF and got her home quickly.

It's down to 101.9ºF now and no one has a clue as to what's wrong. No other known symptoms. Mom has been suspicious of tonsils, though. We'll see! At any rate, I will keep my phone on tonight incase I'm needed to stay with the others, if they need to have her checked. So far, so good.

    1. Little ones can have occasional temperature spikes for no obvious reason. Naomi did once, and us being first-time parents we got her to the nearest reputable emergency room as quickly as we could. It being Japan, when it came time to settle the ER bill it was less than the taxi fare. Yep, that socialized medicine sure is terrible. (Which isn't to say that Japanese medical care is perfect, but it does have little things like that to recommend it.)

    2. Oh, and taxi fares in Japan are less than here, because there is considerably more business for the drivers.

    3. I can easily imagine a temperature spiking to 102.5ºF when teething a molar, but one does not get a temperature spike to 104.7ºF for something like that. A high fever is considered 103-104. Over 104 is considered dangerously high. When I was two, mine spiked to 106ºF and I convulsed and went into a coma and had a near death experience. That happened because I had measles and chicken pox at the same time. So SOMETHING is going on, and likely it's some sort of infection. If not ear then tonsils, we think. I guess we'll see.
