πŸŒ»πŸ™ Happy Thanksgiving!! πŸ™πŸ¦ƒ

The gathering may be little, but the Thanks being given needn't be.  So far we have all avoided COVID and we have a Vaccine coming. Also coming soon:  A new President, Vice President and Cabinet!

Pumpkin Pie fresh from the oven.

We can't eat three pies, so we combined two into one!

  1. May something deeply good come out of this day. May you connect with a loved one. May what matters most be at the forefront of your thoughts. May you know you are loved and articulate why you are grateful.

I’m grateful that we are all still here hanging out together, since the Dean Days, trying to make sense of our country and the time we live in, caring about one another and what we are living through, and seeking to make some small positive difference. What a comfort it is to have your encouragement and camaraderie, making this crazy world a little more bearable.

Thank you so much, for you, and your presence here. That includes you too, puddle, even though you still can’t post yet.

    1. Indeed, this small band of friends means a great deal to me. I'm thankful to Howard Dean for bringing us together.

    2. This helped me realize just how important my friends here and on Forumania.com have been. Especially now that I can only see my book discussion friends online.

  2. To ask for more than we are freely given without any consideration of whether we deserve it or not would be ingratitude; gratitude is the basic way to improve ourselves--one might say with justice that it is the basic religious impluse. I am grateful for my good friends here.

This is why you can eat in a restaurant but can’t have Thanksgiving.”

    1. It seems adapted to warm, humid areas; for semi-arid areas we have the Longhorn.

  6. Mom had a largely quiet night and so far a quiet day. Sis is developing a cold, no doubt from stress. I don't know how much longer Dad can hold out being the rock that supports everyone and everything.

    2. Get all the rest you can, Cat. Spell Sis when you can, and tell Dad every day that you love him. It's the little things.

    3. Glad your mom is doing as well as could be expected and hope the rest of you get help soonest.

  7. The festive bird is in the oven, the casserole of dressing is ready to go in when the bird comes out, the kitchen is cleaned up, and the trash is put out. (Today is our regular garbage pick-up day, but Thanksgiving sets that back a day. But the other garbage truck, that picks up the VERY big bins, picked up next door a little while ago, so I put out our merely big bins to be on the safe side. They have a lot of leaves in them.)

  8. Pandemic Data Are About to Go Sideways [Click] “States are likely to report fewer coronavirus cases, but not because things are getting better.” In addition to the delays between exposure and symptoms, between symptoms and hospitalization, between hospitalization and death, between death and death certificate, reporting is already backed up, and will get worse because of the holidays. We won’t get a good handle on the virus spread connected to Thanksgiving until some time in January—when data from Christmas has been coming in for a while, and New Year’s cases are starting to show up. I just can’t understand why so many people are so thoughtless. I fear the reported caseload is going to explode. Sorry to post this, but if one knows whata is likely to happen, the shock won't be as great. Well, it's time to go turn the turkey in the oven.

    1. You turn your turkey? I've only ever heard of basting it.

    2. Agreed. I can't understand people - millions of people! - traveling for Thanksgiving, refusing to wear masks, all of it.

    3. Here's what I cannot understand...at all! (And I say this as a person of faith.)

In a 5-4 ruling, Supreme Court decides that fringe religious beliefs take precedence over public health emergency

    4. As I understand it, they said it was unconstitutional to have stricter limits on attendance at religious gatherings than at non-religious gatherings. That's fair.

    5. I turn the roasting pan 180 degrees from time to time (about hourly) to compensate for one side (front or back I don't recall) being a bit hotter than the other. I put an aluminum foil tent over it (from the beginning), and once enough juices have cooked out of the turkey, I baste as well.

    I'll know for sure tomorrow.
