If you have clear skies tonight and happen to be awake between 2:30 and 7:00am (ET), look outside at the moon. There will be a penumbular lunar eclipse. Last one of the year.
Hmmmm. . .that would be 2330 to 0400 hrs here, and it is currently 2318. I will look before going to bed. I think the moon will be near Mars and Saturn to boot.
They say it will be very faint, just a bit of shading on the north of the moon. Maximum here at 0143 hrs. I stepped outside a little while ago and the moon is full and at the zenith; Mars is away toward the west. There is a bright star lagging the moon a bit, which I suppose is Saturn. The sky seems clear.

CNBC: “Joe Biden's inaugural committee will accept corporate donations up to $100,000, but bar lobbyists and fossil fuels.” Well, that’s something, I guess.
For all the warm fuzzies - and I am not immune to them - Biden remains an establishment, read bought-and-paid-for Democrat. He isn't going to magically turn into Bernie.
We are in such dire straights that we have to go forward just as far as we have ever been and not much further. Bah. This is the Anything But Trump season.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm very glad he was elected and he does seem thus far to be the right man for the job. We won't get MEDICARE For All, an end to fracking or other things we consider essential, and I do not regret my vote for Hawkins. We will, though, get something we've sorely missed these four years, an intelligent, thoughtful, experienced, caring and patriotic human being, with heavy emphasis on "human being."

DeleteThe moon is too bright to see any slight darkening. But thanks for the tip.
DeleteLovely description, Alan.
DeleteYes, it was expected to be more like a light shading.
Thank you, Alan. That was beautiful, a very vivid description.
DeleteGee, I wasn't trying to be literary or anything; just reasonably accurate in my description. The moon sure was brilliant, though.
