The very last of the 14 caterpillars has gone up to the top of the habitat to prepare to hang in a J, then spin its chrysalis. I expect it will make its chrysalis sometime tomorrow, but it could be as late as Thursday.
Actually cool this morning; predicted high about 99 degrees, and a nice (for us) breeze--I hope that doesn't mean strong winds in the mountains. Smoke and air quality definitely better than yesterday but variable; we took our constitutional this morning.
While we were walking we noticed a somewhat unusual helicopter heading into town; I think it may have been a National Guard or Navy helicopter evacuating people from the fire up in the mountains.
OHIO: As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been at least 131,992 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 4,298 deaths, and 13,967 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
For the First Time, America May Have an Anti-Racist Majority [Click] “Not since Reconstruction has there been such an opportunity for the advancement of racial justice.” A long read, but a worthwhile one. The analysis of the first Johnson administration is instructive (it certainly isn’t what I heard in grade school).
That helicopter we saw this morning didn’t look like the police helicopter—definitely bigger.
The fire is a good fifty miles away from here as the crow (or helicopter) flies, and I think it is going more or less the other way. On the way to the dentist's office (maybe five miles east or a bit more) I crossed a street where it usually gets foggier in the winter, and today it got smokier by a good bit. Visibility north from our house, across the river, seems to be one or two miles. The bases of the big power line pylons on the other side of the river are invisible, while the tops can be seen. That makes sense.
A new Glengariff Group poll in Michigan finds Joe Biden leading Donald Trump in the presidential race, 47% to 42%.
A new NBC News/Marist poll in Florida finds Joe Biden tied with Donald Trump, 48% to 48%. The key takeaway is that Biden is underperforming among Latinos (vs. Hillary Clinton four years ago), while Trump is underperforming among seniors.
A new Susquehanna Polling & Research poll in Pennsylvania shows Joe Biden just ahead of Donald Trump, 44% to 42%. For comparison, the Real Clear Politics average shows Biden ahead by 3.9%.
A new We Ask America poll in Missouri finds Donald Trump leading Joe Biden by just five points, 49% to 44%. Trump won Missouri by 19 points in 2016.
There has been speculation that Trump might have difficulties paying off his Russian loans AKA investments. One wag commented that “Putin doesn’t do ‘bankruptcies.’”

About to go to the dentist; I'd estimate current visibility to be about two miles, or somewhat less.
DeleteJust heard on NPR that your helicopter was the National Guard rescuing folks, as suspected.
