  1. New York attorney general seeks to dissolve NRA

New York attorney general Letitia James is seeking to dissolve the NRA after an investigation by her office uncovered “years of self-dealing and illegal conduct,” the Democratic official said.

“The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets,” James said in a statement.

“The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law.”

    WaPo:

In her lawsuit, Attorney General Letitia James called for the dissolution of the NRA and the removal of CEO Wayne LaPierre from the leadership post he has held for the past 39 years, saying he and others used the group’s funds to finance a luxury lifestyle.

She also asked a New York court to force LaPierre and three key deputies to repay NRA members for the ill-gotten funds and inflated salaries that her investigation found they took.

James accused the NRA leaders of flouting state and federal laws and signing off on reports and statements they knew were fraudulent, while diverting millions of dollars away from the NRA’s charitable mission to benefit themselves and their allies.

The old record was 37 days and dates back to 1898.

  4. trump is bringing his disgusting lying self to Ohio today. Our Governor was supposed to meet him on the tarmac, except he can't because he tested positive for COVID-19. Wish I could have urged him to go an shake hands with Dictator Dimwit.

https://politicalwire.com/2020/08/06/senators-head-home-with-no-deal/ [Click] It seems that Mitch has given up trying, faced with the fact he can’t do anything without Democratic cooperation. That leaves the kids in the White House to deal directly with Speaker Pelosi. If I were a gambling sort, I’d bet on Pelosi.

  6. A new Pew Research poll finds President Trump’s approval at a dismal 38% to 59%.
Among Republicans and Republican leaners, 77% currently say they approve of Trump’s performance; only 5% of Democrats and Democratic leaners say the same.

What in Heaven's name will it take to change Republicans' opinions? It's stunning.

  7. OHIO: As of Thursday afternoon, there have been at least 97,471 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 3,618 deaths, and 11,366 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

They were really late getting the numbers up today.

listener, I saw your note about the number of hospitalizations being cumulative.

    1. Thanks for bringing that to our attention, listener. I presume he was reading from a teleprompter. Just like Yo-Semite and so many other examples.

How about replacing one of the "debates" with a geography quiz?

  11. Well, folks, I have a molar that is cracked right down the middle. So I need a 👑.
I go back in on Monday for the temporary crown. The permanent crown will be ready a few weeks later.
So I am eating carefully and taking Naproxen.

At least my dentist complemented my tooth and gums hygiene. It’s not anything I did wrong and it’s not genetics. Turns out those silver fillings I had for years caused many micro fractures and one of them came to fruition.

    3. Thanks to the Retail Clerks Union insurance, I got a several crowns when I was in high school. (No fluoride in the water when I was young.) One or maybe two have been replaced in recent years, but others have been in place and doing well for nearly sixty years (all of them gold). One or two new ones have joined them. Sometimes getting the tooth ground down for the crown is more uncomfortable than others, but with the new high-speed drills it's pretty easy going as a rule. They are a good solution.

  12. Well, it's official. I just wrote to my Town Clerk to let her know I will not be working at the polls. There are some outside jobs (watching the drive-up ballot box, or bringing ballots to people who prefer to fill them out in their car...), and any good precautions are being taken indoors, as well. My heart wants to participate. However, with my low-normal immune system, it would be taking a real chance. What clinched it for me was realising that the group of people most likely to not opt for mail in voting and therefore most likely to be showing up in person to vote, this year, would be Republicans. Moreover, all jobs must be done as team of at least 2 election officials, because of the need that persons of differing political views be present together for all the key things...lest anyone say one side or the other did something onerous. SO I would be working with a Republican all day to help Republicans vote.

    1. Well, you've done your share and then some over the years, listener. You are very clearly entitled to take a break until this thing gets under control, which I expect will take at least two years.

    2. Thanks, Alan.
I am sad to have to take this step, especially knowing that people I care about will end up having to do more.
