OHIO: As of Wednesday afternoon, there have been at least 96,305 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 3,596 deaths, and 11,231 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
Hey, Susan, good news! The # of hospitalizations is actually the cumulative number. For example, this is from Ohio last week on Tuesday, July 29th:
"According to the Ohio Hospital Association, 1,122 COVID-19-positive patients were being treated in Ohio’s hospitals on Tuesday. Of those patients, 348 were in the ICU and 174 were on a ventilator."
From behind a paywall: voting intention among young African Americans increases dramatically if Biden has a Black running mate—possibly enough to make the difference between winning and losing.
Trump After Portland [Click] The president’s aggressive tactics against protesters have already damaged the reputation of government agencies, and therefore their effectiveness. All right as far as it goes, but I should suggest (and have) that the author overlooks two factors: (1) Impersonation of a police officer is a crime, albeit either a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the jurisdiction; the federal agents were wearing uniforms that said “POLICE” front and back, and they were not. (2) The public in general has at least a hazy understanding that the Nuremberg Defense [“I was only following orders.”] is not valid.
Nice work holding down the fort today, Alan. I had a full day reorganising all the caterpillars and eggs, dealing with Tussock Moth caterpillars on our Milkweed (!!! I may not have enough to feed the Monarchs we already have!), watching the newly fledged Bluejays trying to figure out how to eat from our bird feeder, weeding crabgrass out of the clover, and (most significantly) tending a toothache. I called the dentist this morning and learned that they are only open Mon, Tues, and Thurs now. Heh. So I left a message and hope to get in tomorrow. I think it may be a cavity, but if so it's affecting the root. Ouchy! I hope it's easily mended and not the start of a root canal process.
Anyway, I am grateful for the links for easy catch-up!
What Bill said. I needed a root canal once, and the pain was so bad that if I hadn't been able to get in to see the specialist that afternoon, I would have had my regular dentist pull the tooth. It was bad. But zero problem since then. The discomfort and its source can be rather different. In any event, good luck and easy fixing!
This evening it was really pleasant in the back yard. Nice view over the river bottom and of the lowering/setting sun, with a nice breeze. Miyoko had watered the flower bed we were weeding, and that made the job easy. Yesterday I was pulling out grass in a front yard flower bed (second evening of that) and by left hand is lecturing me about it today. Glad to be of service re the news--I did manage to sneak in some non-political stuff.
