I don't think this is about Bernie at all. (And I think Bernie would agree with me.) I think this is about who is going to best Sen. Mitch McConnell. Doesn't it say, though, that Bernie and AOC have no confidence in Amy McGrath? And doesn't that do violence to her chances? Many people have been contributing to McGrath for the better part of a year, and suddenly they are supposed to shift their loyalties. You know they will not all do that, but some will. And that will serve to split the anti-McConnell vote.

    2. "Doesn't it say, though, that Bernie and AOC have no confidence in Amy McGrath?" No, it doesn't say that at all. It says that Charles can also beat McConnell and when he does he will be a better Senator than McGrath would have been.
"And that will serve to split the anti-McConnell vote." This is NOT a jungle primary. The winner will be the Democratic nominee facing McConnell in the general election. There's no question of "splitting the vote." (And do I need to add that, typically, a contested primary strengthens the winning candidate?)

    1. Which reminds me that despite all the oohing and aahing among professional commentators about "revelations" in Bolton's book, I have yet to hear anything from it that we did not already either know or reasonably suppose.

    2. It's their job...a job for empty-headed twits IMO. I wonder what all these punnets and talking heads would do if tomorrow every cable news channel and political web site was wiped off the face of the earth? Not a mother's son of them would know how to make an honest buck.

  7. The mail carrier did a good job for us today. Last week we received what sure looked like a bill for 2016 state taxes adjustment, so I paid it by direct transfer. Today we received a refund! It's not a lot, but if they insist I am certainly willing to accept.

I also received my one outstanding order for (artist grade) watercolors from Russia (manufactured in St. Peterssburg, these shipped from Novosibersk, no less). They come by surface post, so very slowly by our standards, but postage is only $5.99 and the colors themselves are $1.99 (about $6.50 to $8.50 each retail in the US). The dollar must be very strong against the ruble; before WWI they were roughly at par--large silver coins.

  8. Nine hand sanitizers could be toxic, US government warns [Click] Methanol (wood alcohol) instead of ethanol (grain alcohol). That’s kind of new. I was rather surprised to learn several years ago how much methanol was in illicit drinks back during Prohibition and how few people actually died or were blinded by it.

Tried to post this before, but my internet went down:

Six months ago Bernie had his on campaign to pursue and nobody thought Booker had a chance. There was no real point in endorsing Charles until he had shown he was a competitive candidate with a real chance. It might have been good to make the endorsement a few weeks earlier. But if this turns out to be too late, what does it matter, really? Do you think that endorsing a losing candidate will impair Bernie's standing?

For me, it's not so much backing a loser as sticking his nose in at the last minute when McGraph has been working her arss off for months, and had finally started to gain ground. Yes, however eloquent Bernie may be in his e-mails and however much I believe in his message, it angers me very greatly that he just came waltzing in and basically fucked McGraph. Sorry for the blue language, but sometimes that's what's called for. And I'll never look at Bernie quite the same way after this. In short, he has lost my respect. It was a dirty thing he did, and that reflects backwards on everything else.

    1. So how would you have felt if Booker had won without Bernie's endorsement? That looked like a very real possibility, which is the whole point.

    2. I don't follow. What was the whole point? Being on the winning side?

I thought the whole point is for ANYONE to beat McConnell.
Why would I mind if Booker won fair and square without Bernie's endorsement?

    3. But that point is not at issue. No matter who wins the primary we're all going to be backing her or him to beat McConnell. We don't know, but there is no objective reason to assume one has a better chance than the other. The point at issue is why Bernie waited so long to endorse Booker, and the answer is that it would have been nonsensical to to do before Booker's hard work in Kentucky had given him a real shot at winning.
I must say that I'm confused by your last sentence. As far as I can see, a Booker victory has the same effect whether Bernie endorsed him or not. And if he loses, again, how does Bernie's endorsement change anything?

    1. Repulsive! Surely, though, it's also very pubescent? I mean, it sounds like the sort of garbage twelve-year-olds would lap up. No adult would fall for such bilge! It just underlines how deeply sick Trump is. It occurs to me that rather than Leavenworth, he should have lifetime accommodations at St. Elizabeth's.
