As part of my penmanship practice for the day I was copying a bit of Walt Whitman’s Specimen Days in which he recounts a chorus of nurses and recovering patients singing for the wounded soldiers at a hospital in Washington. He quotes the lyrics of one of their “mostly quaint old songs and declamatory hymns” which I thought sounded like it might be a Sacred Harp tune. I went looking, and found it sung in modern choral form and also in something close to Sacred Harp (or at least Shape Note) form: My Days are Swiftly Gliding By [Click] Lyrics here. [Click]
Foreign Policy in Focus: Trump’s Undeclared State of Emergency [Click] “Trump is counting on his base to endorse his increasingly open law-breaking. It may not end well.” The comparison with Nicolae Ceausescu is rather nice. So is the observation that The GOP will turn on him not as a matter of principle, but “only out of expediency: to save their party and their own skins in the next elections and maybe the courtroom as well.” Time for that might be getting rather short, I think.

Surprise, surprise: If past is prologue, the Democratic nominee is likely to be Biden, Sanders or Warren. [Click] I would respond very positively to Stacey Abrams as VP nominee.
