  1. Bhaskar Sunkara: Kamala Harris might be surging – but her record will soon catch up with her.
[Click] “Just like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris’ past will prove to be a liability.” Makes me wonder if the two of them could lock horns and not be able to extricate themselves, with extreme prejudice. As Sanders and Warren just pass them by.

    1. I made a perfunctory effort to find an appropriate illustration on the Inner Tubes, but didn't find one that was up to my high standards...

  2. Headline: “Elizabeth Warren’s Campaign Turned To A Big Donor To Pay For The DNC Voter Database, Despite Her Fundraising Pledge” [Click] The story doesn’t match the headline, though. The DNC accepted money from a rich donor for database access for two Democratic candidates who pledged in return to raise money for the DNC: Warren and Harris. But it is easily distorted.

  3. Republican senators denounce Trump's attack on congresswomen – live [Click] Not a whole lot of them, but more than one. Scroll down. There are some other interesting items along the way. The way DT is riling up the public should pretty much bury the story about how Warren gained access to the DNC voter database.

    1. As ever, he's his own worse enemy...which may yet turn to our advantage, with the right nominee.

  4. I'm still on last week's Economist. All the pieces in this issue's "The World If" section are fascinating, some more frightening than others. Here's one on Sen. Warren's proposed wealth tax:

    1. Looking at the Economist lede, I notice something I have seen more than once before: they refer to Senator Sanders and Mrs. Warren.

    2. What the part available without registration never mentions is that a wealth tax would require a constitutional amendment. Not going to happen. And Warren's failure to be up-front about this is one of the things I have against her.

I think an adequate estate tax would prevent the perpetuation of huge fortunes.

    3. Bill—there seems to be considerable difference of opinion about whether of not a constitutional amendment is necessary to impose a wealth tax; evidently it depends on how it is done [click here for a discussion]. Bernie’s idea of a transaction tax is a lot easier to understand and has a lot of similarities, but also some of the same problems, it seems to me. Ultimately, it seems to me that there is more than one way to skin a cat. An estate tax would also do the job, certainly. And I see nothing wrong with reestablishing the high (up to 90%) marginal tax rates of former times--which no one paid anyway, it being a way to get them to fund municipal infrastructure through bonds.

    1. Got to the last of the George Will note and said out loud: Ya think?

The bells cannot be unsung, but I sure hope those bells will soon have large cracks and return us to Liberty.

  7. It really bugs me that Harris and others have gotten ahead of Bernie, because he has been consistent and has lead this nation's moral conscience when most everyone else has just been doing politics. Hopefully slow and steady wins the race.
