This is not an old photograph

I took this photo at 11:30pm and it will post at 1:00am.   3" of new snow there.
50ºF expected today, though! Ha!  And it came without wind, so no complaints!!

  2. Lots re Beto this AM; I wish the young man good fortune, and if he does well, I will consider voting for him. But at this point it looks like Bernie is likely the one who will get my vote in the primary, with Warren my second choice. Nothing firm yet.

Points taken from a column behind a paywall:
Evidently O’Rourke intends to use “distributed organizing”—communicating and networking by grassroots supporters, like Bernie in 2016, which he used effectively in his 2018 senate campaign. His 2018 campaign volunteers were put on alert before his formal announcement. If that adds up to big money quickly, he is in the race.

    1. I think the talking head is reading the signals wrong. Pelosi is laying the groundwork for seriously characterizing Trump as a criminal for the 2020 presidential campaign. I don't see impeachment dividing the Democratic party, but as I said before it would be a circus that would do nothing to remove Trump from office. The election is how we get rid of him.

    2. The same approach could be used for dual purposes, depending upon how things develop. But I agree that aiming at DT's electoral appeal is the safer and more likely approach. It might (I'm not giving any odds) even drive him out of office before the election.

Is Beto For Real? [Click] “No Democrat in the 2020 field is as boom-or-bust as Beto. He’s either going to take off…[or] he’s going to fall flat, proving that his 2.5-point loss in Texas (compared with Hillary’s 9-point defeat there in 2016 or Obama’s 16-point loss) was lightning in a bottle…Fair or not, there’s no middle ground.”

Please translate for the culturally deprived; this is taken from an otherwise forgettable post: Nate Silver: “Beto is going to generate a lot of Takes… Is “take” in this sense some sort of noun related to Facebook? It is inscrutable to me; context is not helpful beyond indicating that it is an intransitive noun.

    1. "Take" had no relation to Facebook. I can't speak to any other social media platform.

    2. Thanks, Bill. I guess I will have to assume it is just some sort of modern slang, probably favorable.

  4. Early days brainstorming:
I am a little disappointed that Elizabeth Warren is not doing better in the polls than she is, but it is still early days and I will continue sending her (as well as Bernie) a bit of love each month. She seems to be unable to get away from explaining, and I remember Reagan’s quip that “when you’re explaining, you’re losing.” I had the feeling that at SXSW she seemed a bit desperate. I looked into 2018 fundraising at opensecrets.org and found that while Beto did well, [Click] Warren pulled in less in total, but adjusted for state population (only one factor), she raised very roughly twice as much per capita. [Click] I figure that there is only room for one US Senator on the 2020 Democratic ticket, and only one white male. That moved me to look up fundraising data for Stacey Abrams. Opensecrets.org doesn’t track state races, but I found this at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, [Click] which marks her as a first-rate fundraiser. It is hard to imagine that there is anything GOP operatives could throw at her as VP candidate that they didn’t as a gubernatorial candidate. Well, enough mulling for now.

  5. Here’s another story that leaves politics very far behind: [Click] “If farming helped introduce F’s and V’s 12,000 years ago, it would challenge the principle that humans' language abilities haven't significantly changed since we first learned to speak.”

And now to wash dishes, review a case for a public defender, and do some more work on my art project. Nice weather today.
