Let's Do This

Okay. I'm in.
I have been pondering this moment for months. I hesitated because with so many people running what chance does Bernie have with the Democratic Party leadership? But he is the one candidate who has been working for the people every single day since the last election. He is consistent, reliable, compassionate and thoughtful. He is experienced and wise and cares enough about this nation to run again, for the Dem ticket, despite what happened last time. Talk about character and statesmanship.
I don't want to experience this election cycle any more than I wanted to go back for a second year of home schooling legislation. But it was the right thing to do, and the legislation passed. This too is the right thing to do.
Let's do this.

  2. I think "so many people running" will be a major factor in pushing the Democratic leadership to keep hands off this time. What happened last time is that they saw Clinton as the inevitable nominee and wanted to avoid a divisive primary. What they didn't foresee is that it was precisely their heavy-handness that created the division.

  4. Well, I hope you're right, Bill.

Does anybody know how much of a haul Bernie made yesterday? Or in 24 hours? From the time of his announcement to midnight would have been less than 24 hours.

  5. I guess it's still a bit early to try to use web sites to check out the candidate's stands. Bernie's site still has essentially nothing but an invitation to say, "I'm in." Buttigieg's tells us nothing beyond that he is a young navy veteran (he only has an exploratory committee so far). Warren, as the one who announced first, has the most complete web site. It lists a number of issues she wants to address but is rather lacking in detail about how she wants to address them.

  6. From the “ask and ye shall receive” file:
What Bernie’s Whopping 24-Hour Fundraising Haul Tells Us About 2020 [Click] “ Bernie Sanders kicked off his 2020 presidential campaign with a fundraising bang, raising a staggering $5.9 million from more than 223,000 donors in the first 24 hours after his official launch Tuesday. According to his campaign, that works out to an average donation of, you guessed it, $27.”

    2. Kamala Harris took in about $1 million her first 24 hours. Bernie took in more than all the others combined took in in their first 24 hours!

    3. Another site says Kamala Harris took in $1.5 million in her first 24 hours.

    1. I got four requests for donations from Bernie in the last 24 hours despite having donated yesterday. So today I unsubscribed and left a Comment that I will donate when I am able and cannot donate daily. I intend to get off ALL lists after seeing the "RED ALERT" article I just posted!!! Last time, Bernie refused to share his list. But this sounds like it's not going to be an option! Who needs 14,000 requests from all quarters?!!

    2. Last summer I felt I was getting emails from every Democratic candidate in the country (plus a scattering of Republicans). Not literally true, of course, but the number was far into the scores. And one begging email a day is better than three.

    4. Pardon my French but, SHIT!

I must have gotten e-mails from every Democratic congressional candidate in the last cycle. And that's fine, because I contributed to several of them. Also, there are small conglomeration, like Left Action, where several organizations club together to send e-mail to people on that list. And that's fine too. But I do not like the idear of a national database.

  8. Here are some opinion pieces about Bernie:

Kate Aronoff: It's Bernie's world. The Democratic party is just living in it [Click]

Bhaskar Sunkara: Sanders started a revolution in 2016. In 2020, he can finish it [Click]

Robert Reich: Can Bernie Sanders repeat his surprising success this time around? [Click]

Nathan Robinson: Why Bernie Sanders' radicalism can take out Trump [Click]

Moira Donegan: Why vote for Sanders when you can have Elizabeth Warren instead? [Click] Perhaps I do Ms Donegan a disservice, but she strikes me as unhinged, probably someone who just can’t get over HRC losing and feels compelled to find someone other than HRC to blame for it. Certainly I do like Sen. Warren, but that doesn’t mean I dislike Bernie. Id wager a fiver that I’ve voted for a woman for President more often than she has.

And here is something else that was to be expected; I look forward to learning who is responsible: Sustained Disinformation Targets 2020 Democrats [Click] “A coordinated barrage of social media attacks suggests the involvement of foreign state actors.”

  9. Petition aims to reduce national debt by selling Montana to Canada [Click] Wow! Would this open a way for me to claim Canadian citizenship by descent? My father was born in Montana.

    1. Wait! No! Let's sell Vermont to Canada! (I'm willing to learn Quebecois French!!)

And we could sell Texas to Mexico and Florida to Cuba.

    2. Why would Canada want Montana?

Seriously, as the daughter of a Texan, I must take exception to the idear of selling Texas back to Mexico. Perhaps, Listener, you don't remember the Alamo, but I do.

  10. Update: "Sanders raised $5.9 million by 7 a.m. ET on Wednesday and had surpassed $6 million when the campaign sent out a press release after 9 a.m. ET."
