  1. ”If the economy is 'roaring', why are so many Americans still struggling? Bernie Sanders[Click] On Monday night at a town hall with low-wage workers, we will address the disparity between the wealth of executives and the wages and treatment of employees…This town hall will be livestreamed on my Facebook page. Importantly, we have invited the CEOs of these corporations to sit on a panel with their own employees. Tune in to see if they have the courage to show up.”

  2. Listener, thanks for tracking down those links (on the last thread) after I went to bed.

Tommy Smothers himself contends, and he's probably right, that the show's overall opposition to the Vietnam War and to the government of the time is what got them fired. The episode that never aired wasn't particularly funny to my way of thinking; though it did address important issues. The highlight for me was Tommy singing a beautiful duet with Nancy Wilson. I found the closing moments most affecting. Tommy said he'd like to be serious for a moment and went on to say a few brief but well chosen words about Martin Luther King. The episode demonstrated graphically that Tommy isn't nearly as funny without Dickie, but as noted it did make some important points. My impression is that it was not this one episode or any one episode, but rather the tone of the series as a whole that was the problem, and this episode acted as the straw that broke the camel's back.

  3. I intended to post the following this morning, before the news of of Helsiniki hit; it remains a remarkable thing:

Drone footage shows henge revealed in Northern Ireland by heat wave.[Click] Incredible detail—it seems completely undisturbed.

As for current events, politicalwire.com[Click] has good and expanding coverage. Senator McCain’s statement is, as we would expect, quite forceful and direct.

  4. Just can't stand it much longer....

*Trump 'treasonous' after siding with Putin on election meddling*
John Brennan, former director of the CIA:
"Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of ‘high crimes & misdemeanors.’ It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin."

John McCain: "Today’s press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory. The damage inflicted by President Trump’s naivety, egotism, false equivalence, and sympathy for autocrats is difficult to calculate. But it is clear that the summit in Helsinki was a tragic mistake."

Paul Ryan: "The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally. There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals,” he said. “The United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end to its vile attacks on democracy."

    1. You really have to ask yourself WHY DT would believe Putin's "powerful" denial over the evidence presented by our own Intelligence service. Some call him a naive imbecile, but I'm way past giving him a pass because of ignorance or stupidity. It is plain that he is incapable of serving our nation's best interests, and that he is in violation of his oath of office to uphold the Constitution. Either he is compromised because Russia has too much on him, or he believes he will gain more from Russia than from us. Either way, he's a traitor and MUST be taken out of office.

    2. I can easily believe Putin gave a powerful performance. Trump is an actor and judges everybody else on their performance as an actor. External facts don't affect the validity of the performance.

  7. Sis, who is a very non-politically astute person, declared with a good degree of passion that Trump should be arrested the moment he sets foot back on our shores. Too bad it's never gonna happen.
