"I’d add that the evasions and lies we’re seeing on this bill have been standard G.O.P. operating procedure for years. The trick of converting federal programs into block grants, then pretending that this wouldn’t mean savage cuts, was central to every one of Paul Ryan’s much-hyped budgets. The trick of comparing dollar numbers over time to conceal huge benefit cuts has, as I already noted, been around since the 1990s.

In other words, Graham-Cassidy isn’t an aberration; it’s more like the distilled essence of everything wrong with modern Republicans.

Will this awful bill become law? I have no idea. But even if the handful of Republican senators who retain some conscience block it — we’re looking at you, John McCain — the underlying sickness of the G.O.P. will remain.

It’s sort of a pre-existing condition, and it’s poisoning America."

IMHO: When you mix stupidity, greed, fear and incompetence together you get a Republican.

    1. And that was not always so. The decay of the Democratic Party has been more than bad enough, but pales alongside that of the GOP. IMO.

    2. That line "It's sort of a re-existing condition" is spot on and poignant! Thanks for posting this, Susan.

    3. McCain has announced he will vote against the bill. And nobody seems to be paying attention to Rand Paul saying he will vote against it because it doesn't repeal enough of the ACA.

    4. Doesn't repeal enough! Holy shit! That man is dangerous.

    5. *PRE-existing.

At least it looks like Murkowski and Collins are likely to vote against it. The governor of Alaska is against it too. However, the governor of Maine (a flaming Republican) is all for it. C'mon Susan Collins! Stand strong!

  2. Oy! Oy! Oy!
At lest they dealt with it quickly. Sheesh!

    1. My first thought was that it was simply a lesson on the Roman Salute, which was used when saluting the US flag back in the 1920's and 1930's (I remember seeing schoolchildren using it in an old movie), and in numerous other times and places. That could be the basis of a lesson on symbolism etc. But it seems it was downright nutzoid.

  4. Heaven help me, I've gotten myself into a slinging match with a Trumpite over at Medium. My goodness but he's vicious. Keeps calling me a liar simply because he doesn't agree with my opinions or share my beliefs and worldview. Also continually tells me I'm brainwashed. Needless to say, I am very careful not to use such inflammatory language, for all the good it does me. But I'm damned if I'm going to back down and walk away. What an idiot I am!

    1. First, I salute you for trying. It's a hard job. I think it's actually impossible. You cannot reason with a person who chooses to remain ignorant. Or, as goes the saying which a friend of mine always had hanging up in her kitchen:

      Never wrestle with a pig
      Because you both get dirty
      And the pig likes it.

    2. Ain't it the truth!

Except I think pigs are smarter and a whole lot less devious than Trumpites.

  5. Backing down is bad; walking away is good. They are nutzoids.

    1. This one certainly is. I'm seriously considering walking away.

  6. The Channel Island porpoise may have been a beloved pet or animal friend. At least that seems obvious to me.

    From the second article:

And in an even odder cyclic collision of science, culture and myth, scientists have proposed that mathematical examination of Pictish pictograms like the Pictish beast may enable us to understand the communication systems used by dolphins, whose squeaks and whistles appear to be aural versions of such images, conveying meaning that is, as yet, beyond us.

WOW!!! Turning that around, Pictish pictograms are visual representations of dolphin-speak. Now, *that* is mind-blowing!!!
