  1. I had to repost this, because I completely forgot to include the "bottom line"!!!

    Wednesday was momentous!

First of all, we have a new grandnephew!! 💙 Henry Jonah 💙

Also, VT*Granddaughter (almost age 10) enjoyed her first ever Sailing Races! And! An unforecast Squall came up, with strong unexpected wind, and whitecaps. Grandad (Mah*Sweetie) tells me that there were times when the boat was heeling WAY over and Grand was in the cockpit hanging onto the up side, and when a big puff would come her feet were actually lifted off the deck slightly and she would squeal (hit the high notes) then exclaim, "I *love* this!!" LOL!! She got huge smiles from the school owner and the regulars! 😀 Grandad is SUPER proud of her!! A very exciting night on the water for all concerned, and what a spectacular first racing night for VT*Granddaughter!!! AND! Our sailors tied for the night for FIRST place!!! ✨⛵️✨

  2. That's great, listener--although a steam launch would be more my speed...

Modern grocery shopping [Click] This is nearly enough to make one consider patronizing Walmart.

Thanks for the "Stubborn Refusal" article from April past, Cat.

And it seems to me that Trump is truly playing with fire these days. Play with fire, get burnt.

    1. I've still never shopped at Walmart and plan to keep it that way. The General Store in town has been bringing groceries out to folks for well over 40 years. The local foods shop will too, as will most other places (including the library) if you call ahead. Sad to think it isn't common everywhere.

    2. Note: "local foods shop" should read "local-foods" shop. (It's basically a health food store that specialises in Vermont foods.) The new little supermarket in town will bring your groceries out to you as well. Of course. It's not considered strange here. It's usually for seniors who have difficulty walking (some are on oxygen) or a mom with a baby asleep in the car. All good.

    3. And there have been grocery-delivery services in the Chicago area for at least a half-dozen years. Probably more. The one I'm most familiar with works with Jewel, our main-line grocery chain. Never heard about Walmart delivering, but Walmarts are so scarce in this area it wouldn't particularly compute.

  3. Hurricane Harvey is going to be a disaster for Texas and across the already-saturated south, with up to 20" of rain and high winds, as it makes landfall Friday overnight as a Category 3.

Keep up with it here: https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane

    Doctor Masters called it: https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/ex-harvey-poised-threaten-texas

    1. And I'll bet Cheetolini won't say one word about it. Nor offer help if it hits.

  4. http://reverepress.com/news/catastrophic-hurricane-barrels-towards-texas-trump-rolls-back-flood/

From the article: "Meanwhile, President Trump announced last week a new executive order that reverses an Obama order that would’ve required infrastructure projects such as bridges and roads be built to hold strong against rising sea levels and other climate change-related catastrophes like the incoming hurricane.

“This is climate science denial at its most dangerous, as Trump is putting vulnerable communities, federal employees, and families at risk by throwing out any guarantee that our infrastructure will be safe,” Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune said in a statement ahead of Trump’s remarks.

Former Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) official Rafael Lemaitre said the Obama-era rules were “‘the most significant action taken in a generation’ to protect U.S. infrastructure. ‘Eliminating this requirement is self-defeating; we can either build smarter now, or put taxpayers on the hook to pay exponentially more when it floods. And it will.’”

    2. As Bill said in another context, that doesn't compute. How is it in anybody's interests not to build better, stronger roads and bridges? Doesn't the arsshole in chief have cronies in the construction industry that infrastructure improvement would benefit? :P

  5. So, last night police in Vermont's capitol city of Montpelier were called because of a skunk that had a problem. It had a Yoplait yogurt cup stuck on its head! How was it resolved: The officers Googled "How to get a yogurt cup off a skunk's head without getting sprayed" watched a YouTube video...and it worked! LOL!

    1. Poor skunk! Good thinking on the part of the officers. And hurray for Google!

P.S. I wonder what Animal Control does do if not rescue animals in distress? :P

  6. Love it--the more we progress, the more we move backwards--fifty plus years ago, the first boy I dated worked for a small momNpop. The mothers would call during the day, the pop would load cardboard boxes, when Alan got there after school, he'd load them into a gray panel truck and take 'em to the moms. Once a month, the moms would come in person, and pay the bill.
