This was at the craft center too, created by Kristian Brevik.
It is made of wood with embroidered appliqué sails.
The whale lights up from inside more than appears here.
The sails are patches of night sky with stars! Sooooooo amazing!!
And a mere $3,200.
Excavating my e-desk--down to one significant job (for tomorrow evening). Court case in the Bay Area Wednesday continued to ???? Great! But still have to get up way early for court in Red Bluff (claim to fame: used to be the head of navigation on the Sacramento River) on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteSusan--shingles begone! So those new antivirals actually work? I have never tried them myself.
listener--re Robins' Roost--given the age, it might have plaster interior walls. Any such luck?
Alan
The antivirals work beautifully, as I am testament! I have had shingles 8+ times, but all it takes is getting on the antivirals to knock it right back. I am so susceptible to shingles that I have to take a maintenance dose of the antiviral twice a day (apparently for the rest of my life). I tried to go off the med once so that I would be able to take the vaccine (which the meds kill). However, I got shingles again within three days. Likewise, when I got the flu a few years ago and couldn't keep anything down, I got shingles because I couldn't keep the antiviral doses down for three days. But as soon as I get back on it, the shingles begin to recede and slowly disappear. It's like magic! Hurrah for brilliant wizards of science!
DeleteD'y'know, I think the walls really could be plaster, because they are super smooth and a few spots that were chipped (from former paintings having been hung) needed only a quick spackle and paint.
DeleteI remember visiting the father of my father's best friend when I was in San Jose. He was a retired master plasterer, and the plaster in his house! Beautiful. Look at the upper inside corners; if they are rounded, that's a sure sign of plaster. Likewise, if there is a way (say from the attic) to look at the back of a wall or down into a wall, you should be able to see lath with plaster pushed through the spaces.

I do not recall ever hearing this story about Nixon, or at least not in such detail.[Click] And Nixon was clearly a far more intelligent and capable person than The Mango Menace.
ReplyDelete—Alan
I'd never heard it either, though apparently it was only recently declassified. That last sentence is poignant just now, isn't it? What we have now is this scenario writ large and constant.
DeleteFascinating. It also makes me feel very sorry for him.
ReplyDeleteI do not appreciate the author's overly liberal use of pejorative terms like bizarre. The reader is capable of drawing his own conclusions from the account. For instance, it is in fact true that something very clean is also sterile and devoid of life. Nor is such a remark wholly out of place in the context of a conversation about pollution.
I would also have preferred more external sources supporting the author's thesis that Nixon's recollections, though sincere, were inaccurate. I don't doubt the proposition, it's just that more primary source material would be helpful.
I donno. This strikes me as a miniature portrait of a man under tremendous stress and behaving erratically for that reason. It strikes me as extremely bad form, to say no more, to mock a person in such a condition.
Susan, I hope you recover quickly♥
ReplyDeleteNow I remember why I don't look at the news.

A little more excitement here this evening than I really need.
ReplyDeleteWe think the house was struck by lightning, possibly twice. There were two lightning flashes right overhead, perhaps five minutes apart, both of which looked to me like a flashbulb going off. There was a pop or crack or something, and Sis called to Dad that they smelled smoke in Mum's room. There was some rushing about before Sis called the fire department. Once she did, two firetrucks and the fire martial arrived within minutes. They were very efficient and thorough. They told us they had a camera that detects heat inside walls and ceilings, which set my mind at rest.
I suspect part of the reason they came so promptly is that Sis told the dispatcher there was one disabled resident who needed a wheelchair and an elderly resident in bed with a broken ankle. In any case, they arrived and worked quickly and, as I said, thoroughly. Besides that, they were nice.
Everyone was frightened, as you can imagine, though Sis and I managed to stay fairly calm till it was all over. Mum was panicked, understandably. Almost the scariest thing was that Dad was visibly and audibly frightened. Emergencies never used to scare him.
Unholy Moly, Cat!!!! That's enough to scare anyone, but I would think it would be all the more frightening if you aren't able to run like the dickens if needed. I'm so glad the good fire guys came and checked it out for you! Nice people ROCK!
DeleteIronically, you folks are under a flash flood warning tonight. Take care.
