There comes a moment every day when I have cause to think, "This would be so different if Bernie were President." I'm not sure what to hope for at this point. After VP Agnew had to resign, Gerald Ford was appointed Vice President. When Nixon finally resigned, Gerald Ford became President. He is the only President who was appointed, not elected, as VP and POTUS. I checked to see who appointed him, and it turns out it was Congress. Can you imagine the current Congress choosing the next President? Argh! I think there would be a real possibility of a return to the sort of protests we had in the 60's. Only with social media...you know: Political Flashmob Riots. Whatever happens, I think this country is in for some rough sledding. We need to pause now and strengthen our inner steering.
You won't be seeing me on TV, since CAN-TV is only available to cable subscribers in the city of Chicago (I won't be able to see it myself). But I taped an interview today about the Disability Pride Parade and I thought it went very well. I don't normally think of myself as someone who projects a lot of enthusiasm, but that's exactly what I found myself doing.
This doesn’t seem appropriate for the “what could possibly go wrong?” file—better the “what couldn’t go wrong, and how badly?” file: Trump to give speech on Islam in Saudi Arabia.[Click]
Oops--I forgot you had mentioned this story yesterday, listener--I stayed up later than I should have, but got off at 6PM today and plan to be a good boy tonight. And I absolutely agree that Trump is no Richard Nixon. Nixon had his bad points, certainly, but he did good things too. He was an intelligent man. And I thought Gerald Ford did a good job under the circumstances; I remain embarrassed by the press making stupid jokes about him being physically clumsy.
The press must have watched too much SNL back then, as Chevy Chase did a pretty good Gerald Ford. Ford got bad press, in a way, but he also had a good sense of humour about the Chevy Chase version of himself.
We had hail on Thursday, but it was only pea size. Quite a storm with it ~ torrential rain and high wind ~ lasted just 6 minutes and covered everything in tree litter. Amazing! And a Rainbow at the last! :-)
