  1. It's Election Day and here we are thinking of Howard Dean.

  2. ELECTION DAY 2015
What ballot issues are there in your town or city? My town actually has no election today. Our next election is Town Meeting Day, 1 March 2016, which will also be the Vermont Primary.

  3. From politicalwire.com:

Jane Sanders told Yahoo News that her husband’s presidential campaign is less about winning than about setting the agenda.

Said Sanders: “He’s doing what he aimed to do… The last election the candidates didn’t talk about inequality, they didn’t talk about fairness, they didn’t talk about climate change. He’s setting the agenda. That’s what it’s about.”

Now, I wish she hadn't said that; but I had been thinking from the beginning that Bernie could play the role of Huey Long vs. HRC's FDR. Yes, comparing HRC to FDR is crazy, but if it hadn't been for Huey Long, who was pilloried by the press as a psuedo-communist, the New Deal would have been significantly weaker for common people. Even if it is a matter of calculated political opportunism, if HRC is moved to positions that are better for the people and the country, that is good. But it is open to question where her heart actually lies.

    1. Hmmm. I wonder what Bernie would have said of his agenda. He was once asked if he would be willing to be VP for HRC. His response was, "I am not running for Vice President; I am running for President of the Unites States."

    2. It's not clear to what extent HRC has a heart independent of political calculation. But her positions have clearly shifted since Bernie entered the race.

  4. No Illinois elections in November of odd-numbered years. Municipal elections are in March or April and elections for state office are in even-numbered years.

  5. Routine annual doctor appointment today. I asked hims about my lack of steadiness on my feet, and he agreed it is probably just advancing age. Everything else fine. We'll skip the prostate antigen test this year; maybe do it one last time next year. The people who did the colonoscopy hadn't gotten around to sending him the results, but when I told him there weren't even any polyps he said I wouldn't need any more colonoscopies -- which is good news. And he asked about a healthcare power of attorney, but Penny has it automatically and I told him I was perfectly comfortable with that.

  6. Doc apt. for me, too, today, Bill. But no longer annual. We're working with every 3/4 months. That sugar thing really changes the medical community's view on a whole lotta thangs.
