I was warm here too! 69F! I know we broke records yesterday and wouldn't be surprised if we had to day as well. This is the last of it, though. Tomorrow promises to be 20 degrees cooler and Sunday 10 degrees below that.
Our cat passed away at midnight last night, seemingly peacefully and not in pain. This past weekend we had readied a burial place for her in the front yard, so we could take care of that this morning. We did it in a way that would have been respectable for a human being. After twelve years she was certainly a part of the family and will be missed. She must have been around fifteen years old at least, and could well have been older; she was a very healthy cat--never needed to go to the vet until two or three weeks ago when she developed an eye infection (probably because of a weakening immune system) that was cleared up with antibiotics. We're not quite sure what variety of cat she was; she had a face like a persian, but she was much smaller. She had a type of coat that has been developed in persians and similar breeds--white underneath and gray on the outside. And she had gold eyes. She very often would snuggle up to something made of wood to sleep--it must have brought back some pleasant memory from her kittenhood, we suppose. That's how she passed away.
Thanks, all. We can't say "poor kitty," because she found a good home (albeit after a rough period as a stray, however that happened), lived long and well, and died easily. But we will certainly miss her.
Howard's first this warm muggy Sixth Day of Dark.

Yep! Warmest November 6th atop Mount Mansfield today at 58F!
ReplyDeleteThat's 3 degrees higher than the old record of 55F set in 1978.

My condolences. It's always hard to lose a friend. I am glad that when our Morticia passed a few years ago she was peacefully sleeping by my side.
DeleteOhhhh, how sad, Alan; my heart goes out to you. It sounds like your kitty lived well thanks to you. I hope you feel much peace from that.
DeleteWell said, Bill. I'm glad that your Morticia and Alan's kitty were able to die in such a gentle way. =^. .^=
