Hallo July (O Canada!)

Hallo New World!!!

Here is a photo of the Bluebells that Thankful and I planted in my garden in loving memory of her late brother, Rene.  He was gay and sensitive and suffered for it.  Rene's Bluebells have never been so celebratory as this year!!  Would that he had lived to see the rainbows everywhere this week!!!

  1. So let it be written that here, for this day--Rene was most first!

(And many thanks, and lovely picture!)

  2. Last night I watched President Obama’s eulogy for Rev. Pinckney; certainly very good, although there are cultural aspects that are unfamiliar to me. Still, we will have to see what actually comes of this latest outrage.

I also watched parts of several Tammy Duckworth videos. She strikes me as a conventional, formulaic politician—a poor complement to Bernie. One video seemed to be a “Sister Souljah” attack aimed at a veteran whom she considered not sufficiently disabled to merit the benefit he legally claimed; at best it seemed disingenuous. Frankly, it seemed like a purposeful abuse of subpoena power. Oh, well.

  3. I'm surprised Tammy Duckworth is so well known outside Illinois. Her name popped into my mind when the question of Bernie's running mate came up, but I assumed she would need a few years in the Senate to gain the required national name recognition.

The irony is that I worked against Tammy in her first primary campaign. She entered at the last minute against Christine Cegalis, a strongly progressive anti-war candidate for whom I had worked in the previous general election and was already part of the campaign team in the primary. Duckworth was Durbin's hand-picked candidate and won the primary with establishment support, but couldn't win the election in that Republican district.

But I've regularly contributed to her comapgns since she returned to politics a few years ago.

    1. Well, Ms Duckworth was in the news a few years back (in Dean Days), and has a memorable story.

OT: A fair amount of thunder and a very unusual amount of lighting this evening. On the way home from work (I packed it in about 10:30 PM) there seemed to be severa lightning bolts per minute.

  4. Bill--BFA's supporting Cegalis is why I knew anything about Duckworth, lol! And why I'd likely never trust her. . . .

  5. For the record, I had no clue there was a Tammy Duckworth.
