Incidentally, one of the things that led to Oak Park becoming an arboretum was Dutch Elm Disease. When we moved her, most of the trees on the parkways were elms. When almost all of those were lost to disease, the Village made a conscious decision not to plant too many of any one species. There are now literally scores of different species of trees on the spaces between the streets and sidewalks.
Had my first cup of Postum today, courtesy of The Vermont Country Store. I liked it, contrary to expectation caused by comments on my FB post about it. Dad was also dubious, saying it tasted a bit like coffee and a bit like dishwater. But, I liked it . It's bound to be healthier than Starbucks, and possibly cheaper in the long run too.
Howard is first.
ReplyDeleteBill, from the thread before last, I've never before heard of an entire municipality being designated an arboretum. That's quite something.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cat. Very cool! I love that it's Oak Park, too, as that's where La Leche League got founded! It *must* be a nice place to live! :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think so. There is a reason we've lived here more than 40 years and plan to live here another --- Well, however long is possible.

ReplyDeleteThe Wild Hunt!
DeleteOur cocker spaniel was really frightened by thunder; he would begin trembling when we couldn't sense it.
