Better get off my duff soon and take care of preparations for a trip to the Bay Area tomorrow (Thursday); locate the courthouse, for one thing. Then one or two cases to review for public defenders.
If Bernie has never run a negative campaign, he is in good company: Calvin Coolidge. Coolidge competed with other candidates without making enemies of them, knowing full well he would in time need as many allies as possible. The hackneyed misrepresentation of Coolidge as "Silent Cal" and as "the only president who never did anything to us because he never did anything for us" is totally unfair, although there is something to be said for him being "the last 19th-Century President." It was no accident Coolidge was so well liked. (Ascending the soapbox is one way to avoid anything resembling work...) One must also hand it to Coolidge for recognizing--and saying--that his time had passed; he did not know how to function in the new political reality, or in the greatly expanded Presidency begun by Hoover and further developed by FDR. Coolidge was just such a decent man--I would love to have made his acquaintance.
After an unseasonably warm to hot spell, we're back to cool if not downright chilly. Like Puddle says, it's impossible to tell anymore.
Nothing much doing with me. Dealing with minor annoyances like trying to use YouTube under adverse circumstances: Without any warning a few days ago Window-eyes stopped reading titles, link text etc. and started spewing gobbledegook instead...on both computers. I've tried installing a new version of Flash player, but that didn't make any difference. Since I use YouTube a lot, this is a nuisance, especially trying to set up and organize playlists. Anyway, I'm also depressed because my times have inexplicably increased markedly and my scores have been falling commensurately in the Global Challenge after a really good spell. I seriously doubt I'll make it to Div. 9 this time, much less to Div. 10. On the other hand, I'm doing well so far in my new endeavor of the Trivia Knockout. Made it to Friday and the final last week, my first attempt, and survived to play today. We'll see if I survive till tomorrow.
I've reached Prince of Chaos, the tenth and final volume in The Chronicles of Amber.
Definitely like Postum, without sugar. Think I'll save Starbucks for the weekends. It goes nicely with doughnuts on Sunday.
For Bernie's Announcement on Tuesday we're expecting 81F and thunderstorms! In fact, they've moved the announcement from morning until 5pm in hopes the storms will have passed by then. The coordinator of Volunteers sent out a group email today and I was surprised that there were only ten of us on the list! Looks like we'll be working hard!
Howard! Deaniacs! Zounds!

You can get Postum on Amazon, too. Not sure of the price comparison though.
DeleteNot half as much fun ordering from Amazon as from the Vermont Country Store, though. Eh, Cat? :-)
DeleteWind chill values as low as 36°F.
ReplyDeleteNow that's the kind of weather forecast one wants to see for Memorial Day!
