{{{ Martin Luther King, Jr. Day }}}

I have decided to stick with love.
Hate is too great a burden to bear.

  1. I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned that MLK is first on this day of all days, but Howard is a worth successor.

    I'm going to try again, doing a series of short posts this time. Starting with my attempt to post from the train on Thursday, which was apparently frustrated by losing the internet connection at just the wrong time. Bur Jason and I got into our hotel room without problem that night and then stayed up until midnight talking.

  2. The convention had fewer interesting panels than I expected, partially because so many seemed to be aimed at aspiring authors. But that had the plus side that I was able to spend a couple of hours a day at the table selling Worldcon memberships. There were several interesting panels, however, often (as usual) directly opposite one another. And I now know I should suggest panels for next year.

  3. I was on one panel myself -- on growing food in space. It was at 10 AM today, the last day of the con. That's considered the deadest possible time, but there were still about a dozen and a half people in the audience. But of the five panelists, only two of us showed up and the other adopted the role of asking questions to keep the discussion moving. It went pretty well, though.

    Jason and I will be going out to the Legal Kitchen -- the test restaurant for Legal Seafood -- in about an hour. I'll try to post from the train tomorrow to let you know how it went.

    And I wanted to mention that I am typing this on my new Bluetooth keyboard. I don't always put my fingers exactly where I want them, but it is MUCH better than the touchscreen keyboard.

    1. Nice punting, Bill! It surely helped that you are so experienced at panels!

  4. Thanks for the tip on Faye Li Yip. (That rhymes - I am such a child). I've been doing weights and strength training on alternate days to combat the bone loss caused by the medication I'm on. I already have very mild osteoporosis in the lumbar spine and mild osteopenia in my hips. Now I'm adding Faye's exercises on the days I don't do weights. I took a Tai Chi class a while back, but the instructor only taught two or three new forms per lesson and that was just too slow to hold my interest.

    1. My pleasure to help, Susan. Faye Yip also seems to teach Qigong (the Qi sounds like "Gee" in golly-gee) and has DVD's (although there is so much on YouTube it seems hardly needed for our sorts of uses. But take a look here:

  5. The Library is all done and ready to open tomorrow!! Wow!

    I work 3-8pm on Tuesdays, but tomorrow will be different. We got word tonight that Eldest's wife's grandmother is in the ICU and not expected to live. So change of plans: I will meet Eldest at the airport tomorrow (he is flying out to a TaeKwon Do event) to pick up granddaughter, since her school is closed tomorrow for some reason. It's a bad time for him to be going, but he's a high mucky muck so has to help run the event. He returns next Tuesday.

    The Library Director will work in my stead for the first two hours. Then I might need to go in for an hour and a half. If so, Mah*Sweetie will come home early. We'll make it work.

  6. puddle--thanks for the research; so starlings, unlike leopards, can change their spots? Maybe we don't get enough winter here to induce production of said spots, or maybe they just come this way later?

  7. Yeah, that's them, if my recollection isn't yet gone to rot! We don't see big flocks of them, though.

    P.S.: After a day's reflection, I think I will proceed with T'ai Chi practice according to Faye Li Yip rather than Paul Lam. Practicing by myself I can do it as I please, within the limits of physical ability.

    P.S.: I had a VERY LARGE pile (the better part of a case) of documents to review for a deposition, and I have been avoiding the job for days. This afternoon/evening was do-or-die time, but when I got to work on it, it proved to be only an hour's work. Finding the parts relevant to my work was simply akin to finding the raisins in a (very) cheap mail-order fruit cake. Whew!
