I guess you could call it after-Christmas shopping. Just bought Quicken 2015 Home and Business at 50% off. Hadn't upgraded since the 2011 edition, which is probably what prompted Intuit to offer me this discount. And I went looking online for a new answering machine, as our 20- (30?)-year-old machine essentially stopped working a few months ago. What I got was a whole new phone with an answering system built in. That was on sale too. And yesterday I bought badge ribbons to help advertise Traincon! at the conventions I go to. Alas, no end-of-year discount there.
Among other things, Daughter gave me a metal, mini-Nativity for Christmas. I set it up on a small chest of drawers in the hallway and it looks really sweet there. The pieces are so small, about the size of those lead soldiers our grandparents played with, and fairly heavy for their size. So we set behind them the book *A Very Small Miracle* by Peter Collington…which is an Orthodox tale of a starving gypsy woman who saves a Nativity set from a burglar and in return they come to her aid. It's a wordless book and gorgeously illustrated.
But this morning I noticed one of the Kings was missing. Then I found the Archangel under the dining room table. Later I caught the bandit white-pawed! Spinnaker is the Abominable Nativity Monster, who cannot resist doing gravity experiments with the figures and seeing how many she can hide under the chest!
Such a lovely day!! I have water, a fixed drain, a new heater, long conversations about computers with a grand son, hugs and grins from a grand daughter, and good old timey convo with their grandfather.
I am exhausted, as is the Boy. Have to report that my guests had a weenie roast, complete with S'mores.
We (or rather the folks across the street) had a little frost this morning; we spent a good part of the day looking at sofas and ordered a nice one that fits our bodies (many don't) for half off if you believe the list price. Our current sofa is one I purchased about 1978, and it was quite economical then. I made mincemeat muffins for breakfast. This is my weekend for working at the hospital. My hands were hurting from all the alcohol tests I did on Tuesday and Wednesday, but are already pretty much recovered, and will be ready for next week's onslaught. I am curious about how slip-resistant my new boots are--I expect to find out when I walk on the just-mopped and still wet floor of the hospital lab. With my previous shoes I had to be REALLY careful. These boots have truly unique (and supposedly anti-slip) soles.
Good Dr. Dean is first today
