Here in the Northeast, our foliage season has been one of the best ever, with incredibly bright leaves changing more slowly than usual, due to having had regular rain showers all Summer. Given the drought in the west and south, we are not at all complacent about our good luck. ♥
A couple of ideas for dealing with the relocations of things in the library:
1) Issue hunting licenses to the patrons 2) Have safari guides in [paper mache?] pith helmets
I realized that although things will without doubt be very "challenging" at work for several weeks, they will not be flat-out obviously disastrous (as I had feared). Miyoko will be packing dinners for me for a while.
I have my general election ballot largely figured out; ought to be able to mail it Monday.
It seems the company (Timberland) that manufactured my current shoes (chelsea boots), which I really like, has discontinued that style, and there are none left anywhere in my size. I will have new heels put on the ones I have and try a similar (slightly dressier) pair from Rockport for Christmas.
My application to cast a mail-in ballot hasn't arrived yet. Sen. Durbin's robocall urges mail-in voting, but it seems easier just to go to the polling place on election day. And I trust that more than I trust a paper ballot, although that concern is much less than it would have been a half-century ago.
Actually, it's almost possible to wonder whether my vote matters. Of all the races where I am eligible to vote, the one for governor seems closest. There, polls show Quinn is ahead by 11 points with 8% undecided.
That reminds me, I have to get my absentee ballot. Hope things go better this time. For the primary, the ballots arrived in our mail the day after the election. Oops!
As for absentee ballots, be advised that you either have to mail it in, bring it with you to the polling place (filled in or not, but it still MATTERS where it is on Election day!!), or if you never got it be prepared to swear as much when you arrive at the polls. In Vermont, we have notations on the checklist that tell us who was mailed an absentee ballot, and the town clerk takes each one seriously.
Has anyone heard of a directory/folder with twelve .wav files in it just vanishing into thin air? I know computers aren't supposed to do that kind of thing, but mine did this afternoon. One moment the folder was there, in my Music folder that iTunes needs. I tried to import the folder into iTunes and, hey presto, the folder had vanished. Used the computer's search function three or four times to no avail and manually looked through every location where the folder might have accidentally gotten zapped to somehow. It isn't even in the Recycle Bin. I'm utterly and completely puzzled...annoyed too, because now I have to re-import the LP I've been working with. ARG!
Woot for Howard!

Off to Olive Garden for lunch in a bit.

LOL Alan. I'm sure Listener's library will adopt your very sensible suggestions.

If I could find the little blighters, maybe I could make them tell me where they put my music files!
DeleteHey Cat, maybe my Library should issue towels* to patrons as they arrive? ;-)
ReplyDelete* Douglas Adams reference.
That way they would at least have their towel, even if they couldn't find their book.

Great idear, Listener! And maybe install a sign in the front of the library reading "Don't Panic!"
