  2. I got a good laugh out of your emoji, puddle--mixing in a Japanese phonetic character (the one in the middle(!

We had the lunch special at a good Japanese restaurant nearby.

Late today it looked like a storm was brewing--but despite a forecast drop in temperature (into the 70's) there is no rain predicted.

I decided to send back the boots I got from Amazon, went downtown to look in the Mexican shoe store where I had seen a pair similar to my present (wearing out) ones, and the store was gone. No luck at the other Mexican shoe stores unless I wanted dress boots with leather soles and pointy toes. After I made it back home (I had to wait for two very long and slow trains and the line at the gas station was long), I poked around on the Internet using some different search terms that had been suggested by poking around looking for similar shoes at Mexican retailers, and lo and behold, I found what looks like a very good replacement pair for a very good price. Free shipping and free return, so why not? Well, we'll see. They seem to be from a contract work shoe manufacturer in New Jersey.

I shall soon commence watching "Young Frankenstein." It bears watching more than once.

    1. I stole it. I had NO idea how it was done, but found it utterly charming in a Kilroy was here kinda way, lol!

    2. Okay, Alan, I've just gotta ask: If you were riding trains, why the need to stop at a gas station?

    3. I didn't like Young Frankenstein despite liking Gene Wilder. OTOH I saw it some time ago, maybe on a second go round it would be better.

    4. listener -- Is it possible you don't have train tracks crossing Vermont highways? They're certainly common enough in the Chicago area. But you know that from my post a few days ago.

Meanwhile I keep trying to catch up on all the things I need/want to do and it keeps not happening.

    5. I was driving an automobile, and had to wait at the crossing for two long trains carrying mostly liquified petroleum gas.

Young Frakinstein was a little risque in places, and parody is a good part of the humor. It was OK, but this was the fourth or fifth time I have seen it, and I was paying more attention to details.

  3. Or maybe I've been alone in the wilderness for too long?

  4. What will matter, puddle, is whether the guy gets it. ;-)

  5. Meant to add, good luck with the shoes, Alan. I have a hard time finding shoes that fit my small wide feet, but Keen is the very best in that regard. For the first time ever I was able to order a pair of shoes online and they fit perfectly. That's because I bought the same exact shoes a second time. I hope all turns out great for you.

  7. Dad had general anesthesia and was right as rain the next day, or would have been. Now he has a cold. He did say the purgative process was greatly improved over the first time he did it. He thinks, though, I wouldn't be able to handle it. He was very concerned when I told him the doctor wants me to have my first colonoscopy ASAP. Naturally, the doctor didn't pause to consider how rough the process would be on someone who doesn't walk well, much less fast. One could - really would have to - spend the entire prep period in the bathroom. But Dad was pretty forceful in his opinion that this is something I should not do.

    1. That would certainly be a serious consideration. Maybe with a comfortable chair near the necessary. On the other hand, the new immunological occult blood tests they have for poop (which are much more sensitive and also specific for human blood) would be infinitely less onerous and nearly as good for screening.

  8. Alan, never heard of astral doubles? That surprises me. I think, though am not quite sure, it's like astral projection. In the cases discussed in the book though the doubles seem to be corporeal to some extent, though they can still pass through closed doors. It's all a little confusing. The author seems to be saying that much behavior that was branded as witchcraft and the actions of demons by the Medieval Church was actually attributable to the projection of doubles. But, I'm not very far into the book. All may yet become clear.

  9. cat-- I had forgotten to research astral doubles….searching….searching…

Aha! Astral doubles--Theosophy! Madame Blavatsky! Annie Bessant!

    This from Google [Click]

Theosophy is not my cuppa, but certainly very interesting for its historical and cultural influence.
