  1. Dean is first, whatever the weather!

Speaking of the weather…I left a related note on the last thread, among others.

  2. Geez Louise! I think I'll stay off Facebook for a few days. There was a post on Stand Your Ground and I said it was no less than a hunting license for racists. Woo! Am I ever getting hate mail! Conservatives are not only stupid, they will protect their right to be wrong to the death. One of the lovely ladies told me I was "full of S". Well, yes, on occasion I am. But I was awed at her learned reply to my comment. (sarcasm off)

    1. I once had a "friend" of my nephew call me some really filthy names for disagreeing about something my nephew had said about Romney. To Phil's credit, he called his friend on it. May have blocked/unfriended him. The vitriol was unsettling.

    2. Before I (kind of) got hold of my temper, I could be vicious on politics too. But I've never seen anyone as vitriolic as a Right Wing Republican. It *is* unsettling. Also pretty funny when you consider how many of them are also born again Christians.

    3. Cat, third time's the charm?

Susan, I know a wonderfully kind soul who had a very helpful blog about weather until he posted about Global Warming and one of the bloggers showed up at his front door and threatened him!

    4. Yeah, that's why I'm so stingy with my info online. Plus I have the advantage of having several women with the same name in my town. In fact Storage Inns called me yesterday. They got my rent for my space, but then said "What about L26?". I said, "That's the other Susan." There are several of my name at my Senior Center too. I think the major problem the teabaggers have is that they instantly hate anyone who disagrees with them, no discussion is possible - their way is the ONLY way. That, and they deny racism and Global Warming with equal fervor even though both are very, very real.

    5. Susan, you've hit the nail on the nose - disagree with them and incur their hatred. Pretty pathetic really.

  3. California Central Central Valley Ag Report:
Sunrise 0645 today, sky clear (rumors of rain later in the week). It does look like a significant amount of land not planted in trees or vines may be fallowed this year. Quite a bit of spring wheat, it seems to have largely displaced alfalfa and beans. I don’t see any corn yet. Saw one big field being seeded, with what I have no idea. Almonds are in bloom—some just well started, some in full bloom, some with a few percent petal fall (depending on cultivars, I suppose). I am a little surprised by the number of new orchards that have flood irrigation rather than drip irrigation; they seem to be closer to Fresno, so I suppose there is a better water supply there.

  4. Comments on the last thread.

Sunny here today. They have apparently revised our forecast high from 52 down to 50, but it's still mild and pleasant.

    1. Hmmm, yes. But isn't that "escape" in the sense of not getting sucked in to begin with as opposed to "escape" in the sense of having been inside and getting out? It has long been known that jets can skip or glance off the accretion disc. Is that what they're talking about? I can't quite tell.

    2. Yes, that's exactly what they're saying.

    3. I love this part:
"the jets carry large amounts of mass and energy from the black hole into space. In some cases, they’re so powerful that they can create shock waves that collapse surrounding gas clouds—triggering the birth of new stars."

  7. I have a new favorite song. It's by Barry, from his 1985 album entitled Manilow and is called "Sweet Heaven." Click the song title to listen to the song on my YouTube channel. I defy even the grumpiest person to come away with a frown!

  10. A couple things I forgot to mention in the ag report--the rangeland, which should be thick green grass now, has only a bit of dead stubble from last year. And a big cattle feed lot I pass on my way here definitely seemed to have fewer cattle than it usually does. Still a lot, but less.
