They seem to make up something like seventy-four percent of the cosmos, so it behooves us to investigate them. But they do seem pretty elusive...rather like the butterfly of love, though that was bright...
Across my dreams, with nets of wonder I chase the bright, illusive butterfly of love
Of course, "dark energy" isn't energy, so far as we know. Almost a century ago Einstein proposed a "cosmological constant" to account for the expansion of the universe. He later decided this had been a mistake. But if dark energy doesn't change with time (we don't know) it is precisely identical to Einstein's cosmological constant.
Snowing pretty much all day, sometimes heavily, as predicted. The prediction is for 4-8". But the bigger news from here is that the water went out about noon. Just before I was going to take my shower. I miss my shower, especially with a cold that has left me sort of achy. But the Village is working on it and we'll have out water back *sometime*.
About an hour after we got our new coffee maker from Amazon, I discovered a used but functional spare I had stowed in the garage years ago and forgotten. We know how to make things happen, don't we?
Lots of pruning and a few other things done today--glad to have it done. I pruned a persimmon and a tangelo completely, and finished up another persimmon, a peach and two cherries. My pruning muscles are talking to me.
An enraptured audience if ever I saw one!
ReplyDeleteAn that Dean fellow is primo, yanno?
P.S.: Dark matter and dark energy are still pretty nifty IMO.

DeleteDark Energy is also sometimes called Vacuum Energy. It's what makes the universe expand.
DeleteMy hunch is that some distant time it will be determined that Dark Energy and Cosmological Constant and that which religions call God are all one.

ReplyDeleteOh, Bill, that's most annoying! Of course, better just before your shower than while you were in it!
DeleteHope you feel better soon. And, hope your water comes back on very soon!
Quarter to nine and still no water. Suppose it will be tomorrow.
DeleteFingers crossed!
DeleteSo, of course, just shortly after I wrote that the water came back on.

:-) I liked the way you said that, Alan.
DeleteJust submitted "World Enough and Time" to Clarkesworld. They claim an average response time of two days. we'll see.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
DeleteThanks!
